Neighbourhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

The Botanical Gardens is made up of multiple parts. There is the gardens which are free to walk around and then there is the glass houses which are chargeable however we used the Copenhagen Card. The glass houses were very beautiful and the centre house has a staircase so you can overlook all of the greenery. The butterfly house is probably the highlight with there being so many butterflies and frogs around. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We visited the Botanical Garden and were confused at the outset. There are three entrances, two of which where you can buy tickets. In hindsight this was more logical than it seemed, as the extensive garden is free to walk around, requiring no tickets. Extra confusing were the gates around places and walking paths that were being maintained or repaired, with temporary stairs over it to come from A to B. We appreciate this is not a permanent situation, but it still could be better announced at the entrance gate with better signage underway.
After a bit of wandering around and some hill climbing (not until on our way back we saw an easier route), we found a ticket booth near the palm house. Our Copenhagen Discover card was accepted without any hassle. We entered the palm house first, passing various areas with different temperature and humidity, adapted to the trees and plants inside. For those wearing glasses, like myself, be prepared that the moisture in the air may reduce your eye sight for a short while.
I always assumed the Danish people to like cleanliness and proper maintenance, but the palm house contradicted my presumption, especially the unclean windows were unexpectedly dirty. Not the end of the world, only a bit unexpected for a foreigner with expectations. I recommend trying the spiralling stairs (one up and one down, mind the arrows), allowing a better view from above. Particularly, a plant with enormous leaves catches the eye. There are more sorts of plants and trees I could count, all growing happily next to each other.
Next was the butterfly house. Surprisingly, the butterflies are not afraid of us humans, letting us come very very close without attempting to get away. They sit still whatever you do, offering an ideal situation to study or photograph them in detail. At the exit we were expected to check our clothes to prevent stowaway butterflies getting out with us.
All in all, the garden as well as palm and butterfly house offer an overwhelming variety. In the garden outside, for instance, you find signboards near the plants at every 30 to 40 centimeters. The signboards are clear in itself, at least presenting the latin name of the plan, but it is all too much to consume and remember. This is not a complaint, merely an observation for a layman like myself.

The gardens are lovely but the Palm House is a must see when you are in Copenhagen. The palm house has different rooms with different environments in each (Mediterranean, tropical jungle, etc. There is a great variety and it is spectacular. The butterfly house is also lovely with lots of tropical butterflies to walk amongst. It is also very reasonably priced for the pam house and the gardens themselves are free to enter.

The botanical garden looks more like a normal park, but the highlight is the palm house and the butterfly house.
The palm house is very hot and humid inside so if you visit in winter is better to dress in layers so you can wear more thin clothes while inside.
In one room of the palm house there are some metal stairs that take you at the top of the room where you can see the canopy. One part of the stairs is for going up and another part is for going down because it is very narrow, only one person can go at a time.
I liked the butterfly house. It was hard to take pictures of them, because they were constantly moving :) There was a sign to not touch the butterflies because they are very sensitive, which unfortunatelly some people did not respect.

I visited both the exterior and the Palm house (the latter dk 59.5). The outside which is also free to enter is wonderful. Very well kept, trees and flowers in large quantities, in some areas it seems to be in a totally natural environment. The palm greenhouse however was a disappointment. Unfortunately the butterfly one is closed until the end of the month and therefore I cannot evaluate.
For those who are plant lovers, I absolutely recommend a tour

We had a lovely time at the Botanical Gardens but there is a lot of workm being done at the moment so a large section is closed particularly near the lake. We didn't pay to go into the Palm House. The Alpine Rockey area is absolutely beautiful. More coffee outlets would be nice. Well worth a visit.

On a day with clouds, but good spring weather, the botanical garden is worth a visit.
If you stay in the area, it is free.
If you want to enter the large round greenhouse, it costs NOK 70 per person.
It's a nice price for a great experience.
Recommended herewith

Not everything is in bloom in April, and the main building wasn't open on a Sunday. However, the park is well done with some sculptures and a little lake. The gardens are well tended and landscaped with little winding paths. Although not in full bloom, it was worth taking pictures. Plus it's free -- a lovely little visit while in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen Botanical Garden is located in a large park very close to the city center. We saw a wide variety of tropical plants in the greenhouses and generally winter plants that thrive in Europe. Butterflies were of great interest, some rare with amazing colors. It is worth visiting and I imagine that in spring the park will be even more beautiful.

It worked out to be £7 each to enter, this
Is a well-maintained garden with beautiful areas to take pictures. There is a winding staircase in one of the greenhouses which takes you right to the top, great views from above. Took us about 25 minutes to get through, would recommend on a rainy day. The gardens are well maintained and looked after.

Hello,
I'm planning on visiting the Gardens in March.
Would the Butterfly House be open duration that time?
Thank you.
Written 2 February 2019
The butterfly house will be open, but it is not guaranteed that the butterflies will have emerged then.
Written 8 February 2019
Do your opening hours mean that you close the door at 3pm (5pm in the Summer) or that the visitors should clear out by 3pm?
Written 28 March 2018
Sorry, I have no idea on that one. Hopefully they'll get back to you in time.
Have a great time.

What times and days is the cacti and succulents house open? I'm visiting Copenhagen over 5 days, Friday to Tuesday and I don't want to miss seeing it
Written 13 August 2017
According to their website the cactus and succulent house is open Saturdays and Sundays between 1 pm and 2 pm
Written 13 August 2017
When is it open, as I see conflicting opinions?
I would like to visit the Palm house, as I collect and grow Palm trees myself. It is good to visit these places for more inspiration. 😊👍

Hello everyone,
Do you know if I am allowed to bring my dog with me here - kings-garden?
Their website is not working and i have sent them an email and i've tried to call them but without any luck :(
I'd like to go there on Thursday, with my dog and have a picnic, if it's possible.
So, what you think guys, is it possible to bring my dog and have a picnic in the garden?
Thank you for your help.
