The church locate in the small village is worth a visit for its wall paintings. Allthough the motives are religuos some of them are really weird with violence (killing of small children) half-porn (small naked teenage girls) and a strange modern touch to these very ancient pieces of art.

A visit to Denmark is not complete without a visit to the Island of Mon. We were staying on Falster at the beach town of Marielyst and Mon is just a bit more than a hours drive away. There is much to see and do enroute, but save that until later. You will need at least a full day to... More

We were told this was one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in the area and I must agree. Lovely Frescoes inside this well maintained church originally dating from 1085! We also enjoyed the extensive cemetery with garden outside.

Elmelunde Church is most likely the oldest stone church in the island of Møn, perhaps built in the 11th century AD. The Elmelunde Master is the name given to the nameless 16th-century artist who painted the frescoes in the churches of Elmelunde, Fanefjord and Keldby in the island of Møn in south-eastern Denmark. His beautiful fresco paintings in the church... More

One of the three churches in the area famous for late mediaeval frescoes. Accessible by public bus or by car, also on the Camøno hiking path for walkers. Free admission, donations appreciated. Incidentally very good and clean public lavatories at the parking lot.

Do yourself the favour and stop the car and take 15-20 minutes to admire the frescoes in this 12th century church. That is what we did and we truly enjoyed it. They are up there with some of the best we have seen in Italy's or France's Medieval churches, the clean lines of Danish churches are great and the fact... More

The church itself is very much like many other Danish churches, but once you get inside you'll notice the difference. The walls and ceilings are covered with newly restored paintings from the 14th century by the famous Elmelunde-Mesteren. A kind of Christian grafitti.

Stopped there on a weekday morning, and was the only one there. Quiet and amazing frescoes inside the church.

Beautiful chalk paintings! Very old church with a lot of history. If you are traveling to Møns Klint, stop by and take a peek inside.

The church looks very normal from outside, just like any other Danish church, but in the inside one can find amazing fresco decorations. One can read biblical stories told in a very particular primitive style and beautiful colours. It reminds of contemporary comics. Really good restoration job by the National Museum.
