Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a must if you enjoy hiking and top views. It's not the easiest hike, although the mountain is just under 600m. I've done a much more difficult trek in the Himalayas and little Eros still gives you a proper workout so I almost wanted to give up before reaching the top, it's steep at times and there isn't always shade to have a little rest. The steps out of Hydra town will give you a good warm-up for the rest of the hike, the trail is marked (although the paint on the rocks could be improved a little, at times it was difficult to see) and you can have a few nice stops along the way, for example at the Profitis Ilias monastery, which is a very peaceful place where you can refill your water bottle and even buy a snack. The scenery is beautiful and once you reach the top it will all feel so worth it. The views from there are hard to beat, you get a great 360 of the whole island and much of the surroundings.

I would recommend doing this early in the morning if you choose to do it in the summer. I spent quite a while at the monastery and I also stopped often for photos, so it took around two and a half hours to reach the summit, then I rushed back down to meet a friend in the port around lunchtime. If you're a more experienced hiker I'm sure it can be done in less than that and you can also take a slower walk back down to really enjoy the views.

It was a steep and relatively easy stroll for the first hour until I reached the monastery. The down and up path to Mount Eros was a bit more treacherous with loose rocks and boulders to navigate, but the view from the top was worth it. It took 3 hours roundtrip with a few stops for photos and water.

I did it on a cool (15C) and cloudy day in December.... perfect weather for a hike.

Unlike nearly all the other reviews I went at the end of the afternoon which gives you a good 3 to 4 hours in not too hot temperature to make the summit. Warning - it does get dark very quickly so do check for exact timings as even the first part of the trail has no lighting.

It's certainly challenging at the end but absolutely worth it. My tip would be to follow the trail of "red" - the ground is red soil in many parts and you can easily spot the trail by seeing the red footprints over the rocks.
The view at the top is amazing and especially if you are coming from the mainland it is absolutely great to see "over" the island and out into open waters with little islands in the distance!

The sunlight through the clouds and onto the sea was breathtaking!

Mount Eros is located few km behind the city of hydra. First you need to hike to the monastery, then take another 20 minutes to reach the summit, which is absolutely worth.
From the top you have an astonishing view, if you are fit it will take 1 hour 10 min,

If you have more than a day on Hydra I can really recommend a visit to the top of the island. Good trainers are the minimum requirement for footwear and good boots with grip are very helpful. Take plenty of water, a hat and head out of town on the well-marked paths. You will arrive at the monastery in about 90 minutes and sadly from my experience, this is where many people give up. Press on upwards to Mt Eros for the most fantastic views across the Saronic Islands and Gulf. From the port to the peak took us about three hours at a sensible pace for 60-year-olds. The last 400 meters before the plateau is a bit of a scramble but no great problem. No vertigo-inducing drops either.Maybe too hot in the Summer months but May was lovely. Set off after breakfast and having a beer back at the port by half three. A wonderful walk.Go if you can.

The view from the summit is amazing! This was not an easy hike, so bring water and make sure you’re wearing the proper hiking shoes. Before you reach the summit, the terrain is extremely rocky. However, the path is clearly marked by blue paint on the rocks. Make sure to continue past the monastery, to the summit. This was a little confusing. Incredible views at the top!

Great walk. Up to the monastery on a well maintained path. From there across a rocky terrain to the top. Left in the dark at 6am from the port and got to the monastery at 7am, and after a short break to the top at 7:30am. Needless to say there was no one else there which added to the experience.

This is a very challenging hike and definitely a grade 1 hard. Take a minimum 1.5 liters
of water per person.

This is a proper workout and I felt the effects days after. All in all it took us around 4.5 hours round trip I am 46 and my partner is 36.

The last 30 minutes you are just following paint marked on rocks, no path and in some cases you need to scramble.

Also be careful on the way back that you follow the path...

Amazing views at the top and getting back still requires a lot of energy you’ll want a well deserved beer and food.

Views on top are magnificent. Make sure you go beyond the monastery, as views get exponentially better afterwards.

About 2.5h going up, and 1.5h going down.

It was perfect! But I don’t think that recommend going to the top with small children, because path is not so easy in some parts
