A smaller but also very important site when compared to the Acropolis in Athens, this place is definitely worth visiting, since a lot of things in here are well preserved. My personal highlight were the big rocks with ancient Greek sculptured on them, they look...More

We were visiting Corinth and then decided to take a drive further (another 90 minutes) to go see Sparta. We parked in a small lot that seemed to be a back entrance, but was easily accessible. Entrance was free. Not many information signs but they...More

There are 2 entries. We entered from the back which is also the top. No tourists. So hot but there are some trees. So good not to have anyone walk into you or being poked by selfie sticks.

Definitely worth going to see some ruins. Sparta was too important to ignore. It was too hot for us to explore the whole area, so only did a little. Worth it. Books under rate the site. Stop if going through.

In a olivetree garden some ruines are left. There is some explanation of what the remains were used. Walking paths are ok. There was nobody to pay the entrance fee. Good for a small 1 hour visit if you like archeolical sites. Pay attention: our...More

The Ancient Theater is the high point of the Ancient Sparti tour. It is very large and spectacular. You can walk through it to get to the Acropolis.

On our way back to Athens we made a detour to Sparta looking for more ancient history. There really was no parking, we drove right up to the gate and parked close to the fence. No one was there in the booth so we got...More

Coming here from Athens, You could expect a few ruins & nothing interesting... But the surprise is just at Your fingertips: the Akropolis & the ancient theatre are really amazing!

I would have expected more from such an important site but it's not been given the attention it merits. It's free to get access and there are a few ruins, the remains of the smith eater being the best.
