the corinth Canal can be visited easily when driving from Athens to Peloponessos. it's an easy stop. important is to drive of the highway just before the canal to the old bridge. on the highway you cannot stop! just before the channel at the old bridge there is a small parking with some shops. from there it's a 5 min... Traveling from our hotel in Loutraki to see Corinth's ancient city, we crossed a small highway bridge and I happened to glance out my window. I shouted to Hubby to pull over, as I remembered hearing something about the Corinth Canal and figured this must be it. The highway bridge has a designated separate lane for pedestrians, so you can... More

Travelling west from Athens and just before reaching Corinth you will find the Corinth Canal which runs for about 6 kms across the Isthmus of Corinth and connects the Gulf of Corinth in the north with the Saronic Gulf of the Aegean Sea in the south, effectively making the Peloponnese an island. It was built in the late 1800s with... More

This is very cool to see, but do not expect to plan a day around this stop. Everything around the canal is sketchy, really a highway pitstop. The canal itself is an amazing engineering achievement and makes for a nice photo op.

While passing from Athens to Epidaurus, we saw the corinth canal. The Corinth Canal is a canal that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. The builders dug the canal through the Isthmus at sea level. It is... More

After a couple days travelling around in Greece I had seen many stunning views and visited a lot of places, at last going to this canal. At first, stepping out of our tour bus, I saw nothing special and was rather disappointed, however, nearing the bridge I could see how deep it was. Walking above the canal was breathtaking! What... I didn't know anything about the canal until we drove to Corinth for a day trip. It is just wide enough for a ship to pass through and it much be 500 feet deep. I don;t know how the ship keep from scaping the walls.

A must see when visiting Corinth or Loutraki! Also the bridge near to the entrance of the sea is great, the bridge lowers itself into the water instead of lifting up to let the boats go through!

A lot of work went into this. Sea level canal (no locks), some 4 miles in length. Completed in 1893, but too narrow for most modern ships. A first century undertaking here didn't succeed due to the amount of material to be removed, but ships could be dragged along on rollers on a stone road, Saving some time. Bungee jumping... More
