we spent at least 5 days in all of Mani, saw many castles and learnt about the history of the place.Originally these tall castle were built due to the lack of other building materials apart from stone.Oitilo and Areopolis are wonderful and worth visiting .Stay in Koukouri suites in Areopolis and enjoy the scenery

I went to the Mani Castles area during the Easter holidays, after driving 3 1/2 hours from Athens. I found the scenery quite special, wild and mysterious. The olive trees were everywhere around us, giving us a strong sense of the mediterranean landscape. You can also have a stop to Areopolis for a refreshing drink or ice cream
