Despite the lack of cafe in winter, this is a place you must visit to see the ancient Thessaloniki: classical Greek marbles, pottery and artefacts, and a clear narrative of culture and archaeological finds. The most stunning room contains the collections of gold excavated from the nearby tombs: jewellery that could easily be worn today, and gold leaved diadems and... More

A very informative museum. I spent close to two hours an only saw a half of what is on offer. A highlight is the way in which gold has been used in this part of the world. The gold wreaths are outstanding. Not even the Roman Emperors wore gold wreaths.

The joy of this museum is it is arranged in chronological order so you can follow the passage of time through Thessaloniki's history. There are some amazing exhibits in excellent condition snd well worth a visit.

I took a taxi here while my cruise ship was in port. Entrance fee for a senior was 8 Euros. I spent about 2 1/2 hours studying and photographing the numerous exhibits. My favorites were of the gold jewelry, crowns and other Macedonian objects. There was good signage in English. Not crowded the day I went. Lovely experience.

This museum is very modern and new. Had many exhibits from the time of Phillip the second, Alexander the Greats father, through his time and past a bit. The armor of Alexander and his men was awesome.

A great museum with a wide range of artefacts, but for me the Macedonian gold jewellery is the best exhibit. The craftsmanship is unbelievable and it is very well displayed.
