Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We walked through the morning Saturday Produce Market to access the designated port entry of this museum. After paying 2 E for each senior, we pursued the exterior’s statuary, memorials and sarcophagus before touring the interior rooms. The first was devoted to the 437 BC Amphipolis site similar to the display at the Phillippi Museum, both featuring the gold jewelry but here added several colored Female clay busts. Noteworthy in the other larger halls; a 3rd C BC statue of a child, 3 large intact jars from 600 BC, a 525 BC "lekanis," (lidded serving dish) and 3 ionic capitals with a water wheel design.

This is moderately large museum with well presented displays focussing on the history of the local area. I came away feeling I'd learned something new.

It hosts representative finds from the broader area of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The tour begins in the Neolithic period with the finds from the site of Dikili Tash. The largest section of the museum is dedicated to the permanent exhibition with the title “Neapolis – Christoupolis – Kavala”, the subject of which is the diachronic presence of the town through its monuments.

It contains several archeological findings not only from ancient city of Kavala, Neapolis, but also from other regions. Really significant are the golden jewellery from cemeteries of Amphipolis 300 b.C.

This is a rather small museum, which I liked as it doesn't contain an overwhelming amount of objects. One hour is more than enough of time if you aren't exceptional interested. Unfortunately it has an old-fashioned approach to its visitors. Long texts at the walls gives the information. It would have been more interesting to get shorter pieces of information in connection with the objects, to get an idea of how they were used.

Entrance was 4 euro. The lady at the reception was very friendly. Overall a small museum. Parking just next to the museum, 2 euro.

Good setting with explanation both in English and Greek. If you want to carefully look at the setting, take two hours. Admission for adults is € 2 for a child we are not charged. I was annoyed with not at all discreet monitoring the three of us, as the only visitors. They literally blew my neck. Rude and barely answered my two questions.
Compared with the museum in Philippi, this one is better, but with Tassos museum it can not even compare.

Manageable size, well laid out and labelled. Interesting finds from Kavala, Filippi and the surrounding area. Welcoming staff that seemed almost surprised to have a foreign visitor...

Of course, this is one of the minor archeological museums of Greece, yet if you are interested in classical Greece and are in Kavala anyway--possibly also visiting the ruins of Philippi nearby--be sure to look into this modern, state-of-the-art institution! It will not detain you for long, but reward you with a number of exquisite works and, which to me was the pièce de résistance, a properly full-scale reconstruction of ionic columns, originally of Thasian marble, from an archaic temple similar to the one in Thessaloniki. There, however, the halls are too low to allow of such an installation, although more substantial fragments are extant.

We spent more than an hour in the museum with 2 teenagers who showed real interest. It's not too long for them to lose patience and its interesting enough to keep them awake.... the staff is very nice and the place looks very well organized. Bottom line - very recommended!
