It takes quite a drive uphill to reach the entrance to Angelocastro, and then you have to climb on foot. But it is absolutely worth it! The walls and some buildings still survive (including a small church still in service). The castle stands at the top of a cliff with views to the blue Ionian Sea at a ragged coast where a few small sandy beaches share the landscape with a rocky relief where the waves crash. Do not miss this!

To make the most of our day, we arrived just before 10 AM, whren Angelokastro opens for visitors. Although a few others were just arriving,too, we found a parking spot immediately. In our family , that went on this trip together, we were between 22 years old and pretty fit and late 50s with a health condition affecting stamina and physical fitness. We all made it to the top without entirely being out of breath. And the hike/climb turned out to be well worth it. Besides some ruins to see, you are also rewarded with a breathtaking view over the island of Corfu as well as the Ionian Sea.

Visited in May which meant parking was no problem. Only one road in and out which is very narrow so a good time to visit Castle itself and the views are something else!!! Well worth the steep walk up. Anyone with nervous disposition to heights may not want to look over the edge and it’s a long drop to the sea!! I had wobbly legs on many occasions!! But still loved it and worth the visit
