A Tour visit to Profitis Elias was how we got to visit this Attraction and what a lovely way to see the place. Beautifully Renovated with loving care and of course thoughts of yesteryear and yet not a stones throw away the other unloved unkept ruin of its Sister. Such a shame but great to be able to carefully explore it. Well worth a visit.

You could easily assume that you are in the Bavarian alps. Beautiful location in the forest. All rooms are elegantly furnished and the staff very welcoming.
Remember to pop in to the tiny church next door.
The view is worth the long winding drive up the mountain.

The route in the forest is really beautiful, it' a great choice to walk and stay. I believe it's also very good in winter.

The Villa De Vechi, also known as Mussolini's house, is an extraordinary place to visit. The house was built for Mussolini as his retirement home, though he never visited, and it was abandoned in the mid 1940's. And today, this stunning building is simply falling apart. You can visit whenever you want as it is not an official tourist site and is not managed, but be careful, as it is in a state of disrepair. It's quite eerie to wander around such a grand home which is falling apart, and wonder at the splendor or what once was. The views are stunning and just below is a beautiful, recently renovated hotel (Elafos) which is definitely worth a visit for a drink. On your way to Profitis Ilias, you will pass through an abandoned Italian square in the village of Eleousa; these buildings are also open to walk around. Really great photo opportunities!
Visit Mussolini's home soon however - it's up for sale!

In the top of a mountain, totally lost within a thick pine tree forest, Profotis Ilias consists of very well renovated 1930s Italian summer resort buildings. Two of them have been turned into hotels with unparallel views of the Aegean over the pine tree forest. The renovated buildings maintain the atmoshere of the '30s, as a lot of the original materials is still in place. The drive to Profitits Ilias is also breathtaking. I suggest that you start in the morning from the Kolymbia / Epta Pigies, drive to the Eleousa village, continue to Profitis Ilias and get back from the other side of the Island, through Salakos. This totally different face of Rodos is a "must" see, away from the beautyful beaches

It's a house that should have been kept up rather than fall into disrepair...amazing location and would recommend driving or cycling up to the experience the sound and smell of the pines and the views. Very tranquil. Not sure it should be walked around when parts have fallen down! Also good to visit is the little church a 5 min drive down.

We had read reviews about the views from mussolini's villa so we were looking for it but ended up walking up the mountain by accident. Which was very pleasant, there's one point where the woods clear and you can see a great view of the western side of Rhodes. You'll want comfortable shoes for walking in for that though (we were unprepared)
But if you're looking for the villa, park outside the alpine looking hotel. Walk along the road with the cafe on your left, past the tables outside. You will see the children's playground on your right and the steps up are on your left. It's only 5 minutes walk from the car park.
The area is very pretty, with the pine trees and the views, it's worth a visit if you like nice scenery.
There were also reviews on here for a great restaurant at profitis Ilias - we looked for it but didn't find it.

We found this place by car, it is located on the top of the mountains. !st we saw the old villa. Some people say it was the villa Mussolini. The hous is partly crushed, but you can enter there and to see rooms and stairs. And also the one of the best views I saw in my life (this you can see from the 2nd floor from partly crushed terrace. Seems that time stops there... There is just you, this view to the sea dn infinity...
After villa we came back to the car and continued by the road, and in 1 minute just below the villa there was restaurant and infront old hotel. We decided to take small lunch at the restaurant. It doesnt have any name, but the place looked very good so we entered. We took a table outside - to have a fresh air and enjoy the forest. When the owner brought us the dish we ordered, we liked how it looked, but when we put small people to our mouth, it was like the blow up (!) Like something happens to you what never happened, something secret, something which goes inside of you... It was the rare time in my life when food can wake up inside of you certain feelings, and to make you so happy ^)))
My dear boyfriend also felt the same, it was like the magic, and the dish was eaten very very fast )) Unfortunatly I dont remember the name of the dish because my brain was swiched off during eating this fantastic meal, but the thing I can say - it was the starter with ricotta chease.
By the way, here is few words about the restaurant...
It belongs to the family, which collected very old traditional recipes of that village and now, after centuries, this recipes become alive in your plate, giving you strengths and energy of time. )))
So I consider this restaurant the best in Rodos and actually as a real gourmand, I can tell you it is one of the places you have to visit in your life. Dont judge the look, judge the tast... )))

We came to this area to visit Mussolini’s Villa and it was so worth it! The view was exceptional !
The little cafe at the bottom was family run with delicious food. Plus I certainly advise visiting the elderly man who sells his grapes off of his tractor - so lovely! Only €2.50 for a kilo of grapes - THEY WERE DELICIOUS!
Definitely visit this place before the history is gone!

This is a relatively short but reasonably demanding walk. It is good exercise and being almost 1000m high and wooded a welcome relief from the sun.
It is a nice drive there through the valleys and small villages. Park you car in the car park between the taverna and hotel and walk back out of the car park and bear right following the road up the hill (marked something like children's camp). After about 400m you may see some signs of a path and steps. It is easier to join these steps after a sharp bend in the road.
The steps are poorly maintained but what they do is mark the path toward the summit. Not suitable for young children and you need something a bit more than flip flops. Before the summit if you take the left fork it leads to a western lookout point with great views over the west of the island. If you go straight ahead you get to the summit with a pile of rocks. It is quite wooded there and so the views are not so good as from the western lookout.
You can finish with a bite or drink at the taverna.
When we went there was nobody else there other than a herd of goats.

We're going to visit Rhodes in June and plan to take a car on rent. Prompt please who knows how to get here better from the Butterflies Valley - driving on mountain roads (and whether it is possible to drive there at all), or turn on the road running along the coast, and then to turn to the mountains again?
Thanks in advance.
Written 8 May 2016
Easier to go back to coast then turn back inland at Kalavarda. Mountain roads are now good but this one literally does go round the mountain!
