- dzwNewtown, Pennsylvania132 contributionsGreat experienceThis was our second time in Mykonos and wanted to try something different. We were pleasantly surprised to learn of Delos and all its history. We took a half hour ferry ride from the port to Delos, and was assigned a guide to provide some background on the area. We learned a lot. The only negative for us was that she ran out of headsets and we therefore had to stay real close to her to hear what she was saying.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 November 2023

In times gone by, it is said that Zeus, the lord of the Greeks, created gods including the sun god, Apollo. It's safe and sound to be on Delos; the dancing girls commemorate the creative role of historic Goddess. The role of Goddess is interesting; the trip to Delos is well worth the excursion from Greece.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2024

We were part of a tour, and guide brought the ruins to life. Much was explained about how the ancients lived through what we were seeing. The ruins are vast and impressive and stretch across a wide landscape. In any case, you'll enjoy Delos because there is much to see.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 May 2024
- Elsie0620Boston, Massachusetts57 contributionsworthwhile outing from MykonosThis is an interesting sidetrip from Mykonos. Definitely do the evening tour if it's offered. They do it starting May for the daylight. You should miss the hordes from the ships that way, hopefully. Wear comfortable walking shoes, lots of gravel although pretty even. There are bathrooms right by the ticket booth. Hope you like cats, there are hundreds eager for some loving. All vaxed and well cared for, if you miss yours at home you'll be happy. Tour will depend on the guide and the wind, it does interfere with the audio.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 July 2024

A short boat ride (which can get very rough when the wind is blowing) from Mykonos is the island of Delos; in Greek mythology the birthplace of Apollo (the Greek god of sun and light) and his twin sister, Artemis (the Greek goddess of the hunt and the moon). The ruins on Delos are a World Heritage Site and definitely worth visiting. It is quite easy to spend a few hours walking round the ruins but, as there are no places to buy refreshments, you must take your own food and drink. Also, remember to take your sun lotion when the sun is out as there is no shade.

Delos is a good detour and short boat ride to spend 2 to 3 hours exploring ruins with a Greek map in Greek . The only way to navigate is first to head out to the Greek archway you see on a hill on the extreme right above the theatre which has a hidden signboard with the Delos map they give you at the entrance but this one has everything explained in English . If not just ramble around with google translated explanations and enjoy the ruins.

We did a guided tour of Delos that started at 8AM. It is best to go early when there are less people and it is cooler. The seas were a little rough (2-3 foot waves) for the 30 minute ride from Mykonos. Sit near a window on the boat to get some good photos. Make sure you bring water since there was none on the island. I recommend you do a guided tour to learn about the ruins. Without the background information the ruins are not that impressive. We spent about 3 hours on the island.

An archaeological site well preserved, about half an hour away from Mykonos island. There are daily excursions to take you there, and guided tours so that you dive into this place's rich history.
Recommended if you plan to spend 3 days or more in Mykonos.

This site is typically Greek. It is a lot of ruins. Unfortunately there is little onsite information to describe what the history. There is some but not nearly enough.
There is a shop. It has two ladies and one men’s toilet. There are three vending machines, two with water and all out of order.
So be prepared. Bring Google, plenty of water and closed shoes.

Delos is a tiny uninhabited island very close to mykonos which is a World Heritage Site and one of Greece’s most important historical sites. It’s a short ferry ride from Mykonos and definitely a magical one.

An extremely old site worthwhile seeing. Up and down steps and hills. The tour is very long and tiring. You have to take a ferry to get there. No one lives on this island.

Just a wonderful experience! We had a great tour guide, and the only drawback for us was that the museum was closed
