Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Initially, access by car is relatively easy. Your car doesn't break down, nor is the ride dangerous. The beach is excellent. Clear waters with a sandy bottom and without deepening sharply. You have 2 options. Either you have your own equipment and you go independently (it's a 200-250 meter walk from the parking lot with a small uphill on the way back) but I think the scenario of an umbrella, a towel, a fridge is passable. A smart solution if you don't want to carry a cooler is to take advantage of the beach bar kolones experience. Now let's go to the second option. The Beach bar rents the sunbed set 40.00. His music is gratuitously too loud early on and mostly pointless. If you sit under the speakers good luck. The food is mediocre, but the service does what it can to make up for it. Very kind everyone. We went 3 times and while we wanted to stay and eat we avoided it. With an excellent 10 I give it an honest 6 as a shop. The beach 10/10.

Kolona beach
It is the icon, the symbolic image of kythnos everywhere, and therefore a popular destination for those who land on this island.
It can be reached by a 2.3 km dirt road that starts from apokrousi beach (not recommended by many - net of the fact that then on arrival you will find dozens of small cars and not SUV or 4x4) or by sea with taxi boat departing from the port of Merichas. We chose the second option to see from the sea the stretch of coast between Merichas and Kolona (cost 13 euros return).
I have to be honest, it's beautiful, it's scenic, it should definitely be seen, but personally the spark didn't go off, maybe for the many expectations, maybe for the period (today July 12 - and there were not so many people) or maybe, indeed definitely, for the comparison that we inevitably made with the beach of Kounupia (Astypalea): twin sister of Kolona, visited one end of May 5 or 6 aa ago, of which many, perhaps, know the existence.
Besides, we do not love sand, and here in the Cyclades meltemi often makes you "feel" it on 🌬 as it does not happen elsewhere!
We stayed less than two hours, just long enough to take a bath, get to the church overlooking the hill in front of the beach bar (no loud music, at least during our presence), and take some pictures.
There are no spaces in the shade if you exclude the beach bar and sun loungers with umbrellas of the same of which I do not know the cost.
PS: the Recommendation is of course to go and enjoy the view from above going up to the church.

The most fun I had was the moment I travelled there by sea taxi. That's it. When we arrived - not enough employees, all the umbellas were reserved. Was hungry and ordered some food, even the food was crap, a bit cold and uncooked. Spent an hour there and got away. BRING YOUR OWN UMBRELLA (and eat before you go)

It's like two beaches very beautiful perfect waters. When we went there was a lot of air, so you couldn't put an umbrella on. It has a beach bar but for my pocket very expensive as it charges 40 euros set of sunbeds and plus drinks you will get. The road is rough to reach very bad and with hills that can get stuck. He wants a tall car with a low, you don't go down and you stayed, he doesn't come out and it's a dirt road with rocks with big stones. There is the option to take a boat of 12 euros per person with a return of parts.

Kolona Beach in Kithnos is simply stunning! The unique sandbar separating two crystal-clear bays is unlike anything I've ever seen. The water is warm and inviting, perfect for a refreshing swim. The serene atmosphere made it a perfect spot to relax and soak in the natural beauty. A true gem of the Cyclades!

I swam 7 years ago at this particular beach and I can say that while there were boats then the beach and the waters were great!
What has changed is that the inflatables of the past have become oversized catamarans and very expensive oversized boats!
The rules with buoys are not even respected and the inflatable boats go out with the outboards all the way to the shore!
Well, the port authority of Kythnos is a joke! The only solution is from the local self-government if it wants to do the self-evident things, i.e. not to be where you foresee and put buoys!! If you dive in Colona, it's like falling into the Alimos marina from the smell and the oils. Shame!!

We decided to do a tour and this was a choice, we start from the road to get there which is not very convenient and feasible for those who have reached the beach with a scooter, because it is not asphalted and it is certainly easier with the car, when you park there is it's a very short walk and you finally arrive. Stunning sandy beach, near an islet with a church on top, for those who wish there is an area equipped with deckchairs and poufs and a restaurant but while taking a tour we opted for the day at the seaside with towels and crystal clear water which It feels like being in the Caribbean. Of course it's crowded but it's really worth it.

The beach is nice... but there aren't many trees for shade. Only one. You must have equipment if you want to sit. There is only one shop on the beach that charges €100 for a set of sunbeds. Let someone go and check them! Enough with the obscenity!

Although we were scared by the reviews, but also by our hotel that it is better not to go with our car but with the boat, luckily for us the
the day we wanted to visit the beach the boat didn't leave so we made the decision to go with our car. Yes, it's a dirt road, yes, in a couple of places the road has some hills, but two cars can pass there just fine if they meet, and you go 100% with a simple car, we went with a small Chevrolet Aveo, we didn't have a 4x4. I understand that someone may have never driven on a dirt road or be a new driver but let's not write inaccuracies. The beach is wonderful, very nice waters, wonderful sandy beach. You definitely have to take an umbrella if you don't want to pay for a sunbed (€30-40), just that the sunbeds are very far from the sea... there are two or three trees that if you're lucky like us, you won't even need to set them up and you'll have incredible coolness! As far as the shop is concerned, the music when we went was within reasonable limits, it didn't bother us and the staff was very kind even if we weren't sitting there, they served us excellently when we got coffee and after toast they even talked to us to take them so that we don't have to wait standing there until they are ready.

Although the road is a bit rough, I would say for a car, the beach compensates you!!! It has a beach bar with sunbeds, which are charged... the beach is beautiful although it has several boats that moor on both sides... you put a towel and an essential umbrella because there is only one tree on the beach and enjoy your bath!!!
