Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pretty, windy drive up to the Monastery, it’s a tranquil place in a gorgeous hilltop location. In the sunshine it was simple but stunning. Well worth a visit.

The monastery is perched high above Kastriani Bay and looks out over the Aegean towards Andros to the North and Tinos to the East. The church is delightful with many icons but it is the views of the Kean coast that makes this a worthwhile trip.

This is a pleasant late afternoon trip. The road up to it has amazing views . Don,t expect an old cloister with monks. This is a fairly new building , quiet and contemplative . We didn't,t see any monks when there but we were given the opportunity to wander in the buildings and the small church.
The views from the top are amazing .

The monastery is still functioning today, so it's open to celebrations, weddings and baptisms, that took here large group of people usually unknown in this place. It's really worthy a visit, for great pics and a different atmosphere. You can also rent a room for few days and recover from you busy life in the city.

Perched on the top of a hill on the island is this beautiful old monastery with a commanding view of the sea below. We arrived at about 5pm and the gates were open and the only things moving were a few cats and goats which added to the calm and soothing feel of the place. The main church was closed but we walked around the small, picturesque courtyard. This monastery is worth a visit for its location and the 30mins you would need to walk around.

The lovely Panagia Kastriani Monastery is located on the northern side of the island, about 10 km from Loulida, the capital of Kea. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the monastery was named Kastriani since it was built on Kastri hill. According to the local tradition, around 1700 AD, some shepherds saw a light on top of Kastri hill and when they climbed up, they found a icon of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. On this spot (they considered that the Virgin Mary herself chose that site), they built a small church that survives till today (lower level). In 1912, a larger church was built (upper level). The whole complex was done by gifts and offerings of the faithful people. Besides the bell tower, new structures have been added to the monastery's complex, such as rooms for guests, dining room, cells and more. Overall, this is a quaint and peaceful monastery, beautifully painted in blue and white. Its best feature is the breathtaking view to the Aegean Sea and the island of Andros. Wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.

Panagia Kastriani Moni is the first place we visited on our first day in Kea. [In Greece monasteries are usually referred to as Moni.] The drive out was interesting, and even a little scary (at least for me). But well worth it! Kea is fairly small so nowhere is really that far and once you're used to the driving it gets pretty easy. If you don't have a car you can always take a taxi. The views from the monastery are quite spectacular and the monastery itself is a oasis, both the church and the grounds.

There are no longer monks or nuns at this monastery but it is inhabited now by Papa Lefteri (Fr. Lefteris) and his family. Papa Lefteri has been a priest on Kea for many years. The monastery is beautifully maintained and the courtyard is very peaceful. The church is beautiful and the iconography (hagiography) is quite lovely and striking.

A great location where you can feel the peace of nature and the beauty of God. Although far in distance yet worth the ride from the port.
