Ornate cathedral in the city of Chania
Very ornate and decorated cathedral in the centre of the town. Situated in a plaza next to the main shopping lanes the inside in terms of statues, religious paintings, windows, candles etc was stunning. It’s a shame no photos are allowed but I fully understand seeing as it is a very religious place. Entry is by way of a small donation.

    Beautiful but Hidden Chucrh
Sadly we missed 10am mass. We were there on time but because the online directions are so poor, we didn’t spot the doors to the courtyard to the church. We were at the doors to the Franciscan monetary which were locked and we walked away when someone told us the church had moved two years ago. Not true. For future Catholic mass goers, here are some photos. It is facing the big Greek Orthodox Church, but the doors are next to the Folklore Museum and they may not be open. Once open you walk through an arched hallway/tunnel that opens up to a courtyard and then there is the church. Father Favalino a kindly Capuchin priest greeted us and gave us a group absolution and blessing since we missed mass but not for lack of trying as we drove an hour from Rethymno to get there and could t find it. If you can’t either and the Greek Orthodox mass is starting, don’t forget that it is a valid Mass for Catholics as they do have apostolic succession. Well God Bless! Jesus, I trust in you!

    ATMOSPHERE APLENTY
Set back from the street, this church is a real pleasure to view and spend a little time in. Free to enter, the church is charming and very atmospheric. You go through a delightful courtyard to get to the entrance.

I cannot review this as a "must see" for regular tourist. I was just grateful to find a place to attend mass. Serene surroundings amidst Old Town bustle.

The Sunday mass is delightful. At 10.00 am. Last year in the winter there was a social coffee gathering advertised. This year I saw no such notice.
There is an enthusiastic community and the church opens its doors to all believers.
Beautiful singing. Peaceful atmosphere. Padre speaks English.
Attractive courtyard at the end of the passage on Halidon Street.
Worth a visit for a mass even if you are not a catholic.

Quiet, dignified Franciscan church. One of only two Catholic Churches in Crete . Building is not immediately evident from the street.

Fairly unexceptional RC church with late 19th/early 20th century paintings. Two items of note: the Byzantine-style and apparently much older icon of Mary, the mother of Jesus, on the right hand wall towards the altar and a modern image of Jesus below the pulpit.

Having read the reviews, I had no difficulty finding the alley that led to the Roman Catholic Cathedral. From the outside it doesn't look like a church, though the Belfry is a clue. The interior is very elegant, and is a complete contrast to all the Greek Orthodox churches I visited in Crete. The atmosphere was serene. Outside there is a statue of St Francis set in a small garden among palm trees and flowering shrubs.

It is the first Catholic parish church in Chania dating back to 1645.

We came across it accidentally as it is hidden behind the shops, off the main square and stepped in, lit a candle and spend some moments for praying.

In the place of the old church stands a new triple-nave basilica with neoclassical and renaissance features.

A temple is a quiet place to relax, find yourself and God. I am an Orthodox but I like such quiet spots.

Nice little church and square in the middle of the pedestrian area of the old town. Very pleasant, without being exceptional or memorable.

Look for the address, and don’t be misled by some of the pictures that are posted.

This Roman Catholic church is located in a little alley near the Cathedral of Eisodion.

There is a nice little sanctuary and a quiet garden.

Access to the Folklore Museum is through the garden.
