The shipyards were constructed in the 16th century. There were originally 23, but only seven of the buildings exist today. Some serve as restaurants, one has been turned into a small museum. One houses a sailing club, and one is a parking garage.
We found a model of the Venetian Shipyards in the Maritime Museum which gives you a good understanding how they once looked.

The pity that there is no possibility of visiting inside old arsenal (if there is, then lack of visible advertising or communication) also this would be great opportunity to see weapons from old ages and have additional place with to visit by tourists. At least would be nice to read a bit more about history of this place.

The main exhibit, and to be honest the main thing of note is the reconstruction of a Minoan ship. The construction is well explained in a series of videos, but other than this theres not much else. To save money buy a joint ticket for this and the Maritime museum.

These shipyards are much nicer than the ones in Heraklion. They serve some purpose too which is nice unlike the other ones.

These Venetian arsenals are noteworthy 16th century architecture and with their pointed roofs stand out midst a string of cafes and restaurants on the waterfront. This is architecture that has indeed stood the test of time. You pass them if you take the landslide waterfront promenade.

A very nice small museum.
Plenty of things to see about how shipbuilding in acient crete/greece/hellas was done.
The kids will like it and only 2€ entrance fee.

While searching a restaurant in the old port, we passed by the very impressive Neoria, the ancient shipyard, large and massive.

A Neoria is a part of the shipyard. There is currently nothing on display, it is being used by the harbour as a shipyard building.

It is really impressive to see what the determination and ingenuity of folk can achieve.This small museum explains how a replica Minoan boat was built so that it could sail/be rowed to Athens for the Olympics. It is facinating.

We had a great evening at Neoria in Venetian Harbour, Chania. The food was incredible - must try the fresh fish plateau for 2. You won’t be able to finish it :), but there are a lot of cata willing to share it with you! The service was great and ask to see the cook: a small, thin Romanian lady that enjoys seeing people happy!
