    Busy and Chaotic
This is where our ship anchored. It is a very busy port and a huge area. Lots of ferries to the islands, and that is where you will find lots of passengers and car traffic. Can be chaotic. Also some cruise ships, like ours. And then there are the container ships. The chaos can feel uncomfortable and confusing.

    Piräus, Zea Marina, Mikrolimano
Piraeus, the big port, is unattractive. Still, the huge ferries, container ships and luxury liners are impressive. But I wouldn't extra go there for those, we just passed on the way to the metro. Zea marina is nicer, with big private yachts and some restaurants and bars. We didn't check them out, maybe we were scared off by the expensive boats. Mikrolimano is nice. Many restaurants around a quiet bay with some smaller private ships and trawlers. After lunch there you can walk up Kastella hill and walk back to the metro via some shopping streets.

Plenty to see and do at the port.
It was so hot when we arrived. Tender from the ship. Plenty of buses and tour shops so don’t pay overpriced ship prices. We went on hop off bus to Acropolis. Athens traffic is crazy! Got to Acropolis but it is very steep and little shade or places to sit. Queues were very very long so we didn’t make it unfortunately. Not really suitable for people with problems walking far.

The Port was easy to navigate and strict on time limits. We took a taxi from Plaka area Port. It was 25 Euros and takes 15 minutes. We were leaving on a Royal Caribbean cruise, and it was at the end of the Port. The taxi pulled up with the others, and we got out and dropped our luggage under the tents. We then proceded indoors for check-in. There were multiple lines, and they were all moving fast. We then went through security and walked outdoors through a courtyard area directly into the ship. The entire process for us was 15 minutes. Our check-in time was 11 am. I would say that was my least stressful embarkation ever. Although, if you show up after latest time to arrive or without property documents, you will be left at the dock. We saw 4 families leave.

It’s a port. The service people was short with us. Almost annoyed. I am glad I booked online. If I had more than a question it would have been unpleasant. Upon my return the taxis outside try to scam you for $35 so called flat rate for a ride. Another driver offered to do it for $20, the scam driver tried to fight him. Book a ride through Uber

slept in the only 4 or 5 star hotel in Piraeus, the Theoxenia Hotel Piraeus
at €211 for two nights and very well located and secure but taxi required to go to the port with suitcases. The taxi drops us off at the foot of the boat. Not much to say about the port from which we only embark and disembark.
Lots of cool shops on the main streets of Piraeus. Especially to do the small Marina Mikrolimano with many small and large restaurants of good quality especially the super nice Enteuktḗrio and very good fresh products located on the right on a typical Greek restaurant height.

The visit to the Port of Piraeus took place in extreme weather conditions: at least 40 C ° , under a merciless sun and arrived at rush hour!
So, as a non sun lover I visited this beautiful place. I alternated short views of the seafront (in the sun), with long walks in the shade of the buildings.
The latter impressed me very much: entrances adorned with marble and plants, huge balconies and equally vast rooms; one can see that these accommodations are intended for wealthy people.
The streets were wide though not spotless. We visited the small port: very nice with moored yachts. The sea was a pristine blue, despite the enormous maritime traffic.
Recommendation (not at rush hour) a visit.

“Obligatory” passage to take a ferry towards the islands.
Arriving at night, head to the hotel located 5 minutes from the ferry dock. At night you don't notice much, even if the city doesn't seem very friendly. What surprises and annoys the most is the smell...the omnipresent smell of exhaust gases!!! And for good reason: in the early morning, once the sun rises, Pireaus is no longer hidden. An old town, buildings in very poor condition, and work everywhere, which seems more like DIY than real renovations. Direction the quays, and there, we finally understand this smell of exhaust gas: dozens of ferries, and their chimneys which constantly spew nauseating clouds!!
Access to the platforms is relatively easy, the indications rather brief. Allow time, the platforms are at least 2 km long, so don't hesitate to ask for help from the "huts" of the different companies. They help you even if your ticket is for a different boat than theirs.

I travel very often and I want to inform the PPA of the situation. Inconvenience for regular travelers! It smells like a urinal! The PPA passenger waiting area & the specially designed area are occupied! It's a hot spot! Homeless & Dependent Asylum. A popular dormitory. A health issue is raised! The smell is awful! If you have to travel in the morning or evening or when there are difficult weather conditions, it is a hassle, you have nowhere to stand! The WC vandalized..You hate to go! There is disorder! Let the taxi drivers occupy the exit inside the port and cause congestion for travelers who want to exit. I am attaching pictures!

Lots of dirt and grime, awful smells! For years, a decadent situation has been maintained in front of the port, while the relevant ministries, unfortunately, have taken notice, for some reason they do not take care. Christmas and for the first time we happened to see the specially designed passenger accommodation area open, but in the end it was not opened for travelers but to host homeless people.. Congratulations to the PPA for the initiative, although I believe that such an organization with the subsidies it receives, will he could have allocated a more appropriate space for the homeless and not the space for the traveling public... Gate E8 E9 terrible condition, all this next to the port station of Argosaronicos! In general, the port is a camp! A picture is worth 1000 words! Interests that maintain this status. The most inhospitable and decadent port in Europe. Disgust and stench. Dangerous place. Passenger waiting areas are unacceptable. The toilets are non-functional. Homeless everywhere. Harassment by beggars, peddlers and (strange) people. Rude taxi drivers with unprofessional behavior who invade the space and block the exits, pounce on you to get a ride and if you ask for a relatively nearby destination, they refuse you their services. In general, I recommend caution.
