Been there today, still is closed. You can enjoy exterior trough the fence. Marvelous. It takes 30 min from Monasteriki, go to the metro Hagia Marina, and then take the bus 866 to Psihiatreion bus stop (or ask the driver to tel you when to...More

It's a small church, with maybe 20 partially restored beautiful mosaic scenes, and a wonderful head of Jesus (remarkably similar to the one in Cefalu, Sicily) in the dome. They won't let you take photos, which is a pity, but it's very much worth seeing....More

Off the beaten path of typical Athens, this monastery is inspiring. Definitely worth the drive and the visit.

The Oracle of Delphi is high in the mountains about 3 hours from the city of Athens. While it is a long drive from Athens, it is worth it for the breathe taking views and the great displays in the museum. The guided tour of...More

The Monastery of Daphni is a hidden treasure. It is definitely "off the beaten track" and somewhat difficult to find, even for the experienced Athenian cabbie. Staying in the Plaka allows for quick access to many of Athens tourist sites, the Monastery is a mini...More

Really wanted to see this World Heritage Site, and encouraged by others' reports that you can see even better and closer with the scaffolding, but that wasn't true for me. While the grounds are open 9-2 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, the church is closed....More

I was really looking forward to seeing mosaics at Dapfni, and according to the guide book, I would find it open, BUT please note it is only open on Tuesday and Fridays. We went on Saturday!!! Scaffolding, shut gates, covered in plastic sheeting - what...More

If you are an architecture fan, you might want to wait until the scaffolding, which is both inside and outside, comes down. But if you are interested in the mosaics, you might be better off now, when you can ascend the scaffolding and see many...More
