Olivetree store, the First OliveWood shop in Athens, is a place where you can admire the Art of the GREEK HANDMADE OLIVEWOOD CARVINGS! Using pieces of olivewood that we collect from all over Greece aged over 500 years old and more,my family and our partners create unique pieces of ART which represent THE GREEK culture.

We first stumbled across this shop a week earlier when exploring Athens. The gifts in this store are not the tacky tourist souvenirs which are everywhere in the Plaka district. We fell in love with the olive wood villages. These were a single piece of olive wood hand-carved into a 3 dimensional village. The artist from Peloponnese only sells these... More

I saw reviews of this on TA and put it on our list of places to check out. There are a lot of shops selling olive wood objects, but we chose to stop at Olive Tree due to the great reviews. I'm glad we did! The shop is beautiful, they have a wide variety of objects and everything seemed to... More

Not a fan of tacky souvenir shops, and was looking for something more original. Discovered this little shop in the Plaka district, under the view of the Acropolis. Gifts are handmade from olive trees. They have jewelry, decor, kitchen utensils, and even a guitar! The man was very nice, and cured my brain cramp when I was about to buy... More

These beautifully made olive wood pieces from this quaint little shop would have to be the best in Athens. The owner was so helpful, friendly and very patient as I couldn't make up my mind with so many choices. Am so happy with our purchases..they are of such good quality and workmanship at very reasonable prices.

I was in Athens for business and found the Olive Tree while looking for a place to buy some local gifts for family. The first time I went in I met the owner's sister and, inevitably I think, ended up with a basket full of olive wood utensils and cutting boards. By the time I was finished shopping I had... More

Such a nice shop to stop into if you are looking for something unique to bring home to remember your trip! The owner was helpful, spoke English and went over where his products are from, that his family makes items in their shop and also was very reasonably priced.

We visited the store by a recommendation from our cruise ship in June 2015. Service was excellent, products are beautiful, a unique 'souvenir' from Greece. When we had an issue with a product, I reached out to the store and they serviced our product without hesitation. We highly recommend you visit Olive Tree when in Athens.

Friendly staff and authentic olive tree products..Value for money...10% off if pay by currency. Staff said they don't cut live trees to make things, instead they get dead trees and other sources...

Shops selling olive wood products abound in the Plaka. I can only echo previous comments about the quality of the products in this shop on Adrianou St. We received personal service from one of the owners and learned that the ancient, no longer bearing, trees are cut on the island of Corfu and shipped to the shop near Athens where... Once upon a time, Poseidon and Athena competed against each other for the Kingdom of Attica. Poseidon, “God of seas”, struck his trident to the ground and a well of salt water was formed granting the Greeks with a means of trade and water which however was non potable. Athena on the other hand a “Goddess of wisdom and justice”... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
