It is one of the little gems of Athens located just a short walk from Syntagma square. The entrance fee is cheap, the museum is full of interesting information and the building itself is of magnificent architectural classic design. It is not huge so it...More

If you are into coins, old money, this is your museum. Spread out over 2 floors and still expanding, you will see a collection of ancient coins that is second to none. There is some English information, but you can get a free audio guide....More

The coin collection is outstanding. The information provided however, is very scarce. I wished all museums would provide a mobile app, where you can access *all* available information on each item on display in the museum, with professional photography (outside the glass) for each item....More

Having seen coins in museums in the past, I was not too enthusiastic about visiting this one but how wrong I was. The coins here are so detailed that they are even used to revisit and reconstruct structures that they depict.

Fascinating small museum that tells the story of coins in the region over thousands of years. My wife and I enjoyed wandering the museum and learning. I'd certainly recommend visiting during any warm afternoon. We beat the heat while we learned something new.

Even if you have no real interest in coins, the building alone is worth a look. We visited as part of the 15 euro multi ticket purchased from the Archaeological Museum and enjoyed it even more! Lots of ancient coins from the region to see...More

Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is
Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament
building on its upper side and surrounded by other
large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande
Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia
are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like
the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia
Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents,
