Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.

Fun evening cooking class
We had such a wonderful evening taking a cooking class with Marilena. The food was delicious and we now have a Greek cookbook and all of the techniques we learned. It came with a Greek cheese tasting and phyllo dough making lesson. We oftentimes take cooking classes when we travel and we always enjoy them and learn something that will help us remember a trip. This time the biggest take away may have been authentic Greek salad (for which we are now looking for real Greek feta and not Americanized Greek feta) but we learned lots of other things too and had a fantastic evening.

A Must Do Experience in Athens
CookinAthens was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Greece! Marilena was amazing. Our group was small - my husband and I and our 12 year old grandson - and she was encouraging and fun and made the whole experience quite extraordinary. She definitely worked hard ahead of time shopping for very fresh ingredients and prepping some of the food. There were no wasted moments. We got to do so much of the work to prepare the meal, which we enjoyed so very much, and having the recipes now that we are back in Canada is phenomenal. I would highly recommend Marilena and the company! When we go back to Greece, I will definitely do this again.

A highlight of our family vacation in Athens

Marilena and her assistants were fun to work with and we all dug right in and started cooking, regardless of the level of our kitchen skills. They made everything fun and easy. We made so much food, enjoyed a feast of authentic Greek dishes together afterwards and it was all delicious! Not only do we have great memories of our family adventures in Greek cooking, Marilena emailed us a recipe booklet with all the great food we cooked together - and many more recipes to try at home to remember our time in Greece! When we first arrived, we weren't sure about the location. The building doesn't look like a cooking studio and the entrance area is not what you would expect. However, once you get up to the studio, you'll find a bright and comfortable place to cook. Enjoy!

A highlight of our family vacation in Athens

Our CookinAthens experience was part of a multigenerational vacation to Greece and one of the highlights of our stay in Athens. Marilena and her assistants were fun to work with and we all dug right in and started cooking, regardless of the level of our kitchen skills. They made everything fun and easy. We made so much food, enjoyed a feast of authentic Greek dishes together afterwards and it was all delicious! Not only do we have great memories of our family adventures in Greek cooking, Marilena emailed us a recipe booklet with all the great food we cooked together - and many more recipes to try at home to remember our time in Greece!

When we first arrived, we weren't sure about the location. The building doesn't look like a cooking studio and the entrance area is not what you would expect. However, once you get up to the studio, you'll find a bright and comfortable place to cook. Enjoy!

A wonderful cooking experience in the heart of Athens. Amazing food & place and an excellent host.

Marilena is an excellent host and her place is beautiful with amazing view. She communicates very well with her guests and creates a pleasant environment. The class is well organised and fun. The food is traditional greek and tastes delicious. The duration is c. 3 hrs which is perfect for business events.

The communication via email was a big plus and efficient.

WONDERFUL experience!

We had a great day with Marilena. We met her in a central locale where she then treated us to some yummy Greek delights from special shops. We then hit the market to buy foods for our class-fascinating experience! The class was so informative and fun. We then sat down altogether for a delicious meal accompanied by Greek wines. Marilena then sent out a whole list of recipes, above and beyond what we made.

Great experience and chance to learn about Greek food

July 2020 • Couples

My girlfriend and I got the first class after Corona-Virus break.

We choose Mezedes to learn about Greek kitchen.
In preparation Marilena let us choose 6 recipes out of all available options - great flexibility 😉

During our training Marilena showed us how to make the dishes and we were able to execute needed steps by our own. Hands-On is always best.💪

The studio looks very nice and new!
Might also be an adventure for a bigger group.

Marilena took accurate attention on health and corona protection!

Despite learning new things it was great fun 😊

A 10-Star Experience

I wish I could give Marilena 10 stars for every aspect of this wonderful experience. I booked a special dinner for the 10-year anniversary with my wife. Walking into the space, I was immediately struck by the incredible view of the Acropolis. Then came the food...and it kept coming. Each course was beautifully presented and wonderfully flavorful. It was some of the best food we've had in our month here in Greece. Our conversations with Marilena were also a treat. Whether you're looking for a cooking class or special dinner, you will be happy you chose Marilena and CookinAthens.

Unforgettable experience!

The experience was above my expectations! The view of the Acropolis was stunning! Marilena was a very good hostess, very friendly and taught us many techniques! Kaseropita and tzatziki were my favorite dishes! We will definitely visit again!

Fun cooking class!

Don’t let the building and the freaky elevator scare you. The kitchen is on the fifth floor and is modern and inviting! Marilena and her assistant were wonderful! Our group of four made a variety of food together and had a great time!

Marvelous Time!

We had a marvelous time cooking with Marilena. The space we cooked in was clean and organized and had a great view. Marilena was very knowledgeable and helpful while cooking, and allowed us to cook everything without doing it all for us. We had three kids with us, and she made it enjoyable for them as well. The only thing I would suggest if you have kids is to ask if you could come at an earlier time (we didn't think about this until after the fact) because it was hard for them to wait until all the food was cooked. Marilena gave them plain noodles that we cooked that weren't going to be used in the meal. She was very attentive. I would definitely recommend Marilena and her class.

Really excellent experience

Marilena taught our family some traditional Greek dishes and then we got a chance to sit and eat them. My teenage son chose this activity and we had a great time. She was patient with us and took the time to demonstrate everything step by step. She has her own cooking studio in a strange industrial looking building. Don’t let that pu t you off. She met us downstairs and brought us up and her place was great. Really recommend for families with teens or groups
