Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Most of the Jews in Greece were killed in the Holocaust. Each triangle of the Magen David in this monument list the many Jewish communities that existed until the Jews were annihilated during WWII.

The visit to this monument was completed with a visit to a nearby synagogue. For a modest fee, a short & informative tour was presented with the history of the pre-war Jewish Greek community.

The Jewish Museum is also worthwhile visiting.

I stumbled upon the memorial accidentally on my way from one place to the other. It is a yellow star of David torn apart, very sobering reminder of the Holocaust.

Not mentioned in any of the tourist guides, I arrived there merely by accident, as I was walking back to the Plaka from Keramikos archaeological site.

Clad in a small, quite shaggy garden, less then ten meters off the highly touristic Eremu street, I suddenly saw that memorial, which cought my eye and my curiosity.

It is located just off the Thissio train station from which the Jews of Athens were deported to their death.

The memorial, shaped like a brocken Star of David, commemorates the extermination of the 2500 years old Greek Jewish community.
The names of the congregations that perished in the holocaust are inscribed on the side of the triangular stones.

Another stone beside the Star of David carries the universal words of the Nobel prize winner Eli Wiesel, calling for contemplation, remembrance, and "never again".

This memorial is a must to all visitors to Athens - the foundation stone of human culture.
Stop there for few minutes, and praise humanity.

The memorial monument was created in 2010, 70 years after the World War II. Most of the Jewish Greek community was perished during the war (out of a around 78,000 Greek Jews, only 10,000 survived). Symbolically, the memorial's site is located close to the synagogue where the Jews of Athens were captured by the Germans.

The monument itself is very nicely designed. It is carved in the form of the Star of David. However, I was sadden to see parts of the sculpture covered in graffiti. In the past, the Athens Holocaust Memorial was desecrated a few times, when vandals spray painted the logo of an ultra-nationalist group on it.

Holocaust Memorial is behind Beth Shalom Synagogue and across from Kerameikos Archeological site. It is yellow like a yellow Jewish star that is pulling apart. Each block has names of Greek cities where Jews were killed in concentration camps. The largest block is for Salonika (Thessaloniki). Eighty-seven percent of its Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. Wish signage were good.

A separate steel “book” in front of Beth Shalom Synagogue lists Greek righteous gentiles who saved Jews. Gratefully there are many pages of this book.

Very simple yet strong sculpture. Large spread out pieces of the star of David in beige stone, each angle containing the names of lost communities which lived near each other. Hidden away in a small public park just off the former Jewish quarter. Minimalistic work demanding a tour guide to explain some of what is seen.

The memorial to the Jews who perished in the Holocaust is located near the Keramikos Archaeological site. It is a rather memorial simple consisting of geometric shapes.

Worth a short visit.

A rather basic memorial, consisting of a series of stones laid out to represent the Star of David. Not particularly well maintained. A little disappointing compared with other memorials we have visited in other countries.

It’s a poignant monument to the horrific extermination of Greek Jews during the Nazi occupation of the country.

Unveiled in 2010 it was created in the form of a Star of David by the Greek American artist DeAnna Maganias. It is located close to a Synagogue on Melidoni Street where Jews were trapped and captured by the German occupying forces.

It is horrendous to take in that nearly 90 percent of Greek Jews were dispatched to concentration camps and exterminated during the German terrors of WW II.
