We had an Amazing time on the Douro tour! The most special part of the day was Quinta de s Bernardo, such an amazing place with a passionate winemaker. We got a wonderful education while tasting and stay for the lunch! We were especially impressed w Zeca our guide. He was calm, accommodating, kind, and knowledgeable! Thank you fir a great tour!

This was a wonderfully executed tour and none of the four of us expected to have a day so filled with stops and tastings. Zeca picked us up right on time and gave us a rundown on our itinerary. We were making the first stop in no time: the picturesque town of Amarante. We took pictures, Zeca took us around the cathedral and we stopped in for some local pastries and coffee at the nearby cafe. Our second stop was very close by and was a complete surprise. Zeca brought out a plate of meat stew, Portuguese bread, and a pitcher of green wine and a pitcher of red so colorful that it stained the pitcher. We fortified ourselves before the continuation of the tour. The valley was beautiful as wound our way to a photo stop among the vineyards. We had requested an extra winery for our tour and Zeca obliged with a small producer: Quinta do Pôpa. We tasted 4 wines for 15 euro each and there was an amazing dessert wine in the style of ice wines that we ended up purchasing. After a stop at a local market for fresh produce and a nice lunch where Zeca gave us recommendations and I had a great octopus dish, we took a relaxing boat ride in the town of Pinhão. Besides the soothing views of the surrounding hills and a sunny afternoon, Zeca gave us two ports to try (with refills!). Everyone agrees that it was an amazing stop. Next up was Quinta do Bomfim, a larger producer with an impressive view from their tasting room. Zeca surprised us with pasteis de nata in accompaniment to our 3 ports. We were not rushed at all as we savored our ports and enjoyed the sunset on the back porch of the winery. To add to the experience, Zeca stopped for a quick look at the beautiful tile work at the Pinhão train station before safely bringing us back to our Porto apartment. This was an unforgettable experience that we would all repeat in a heartbeat and we all remember it and Zeca fondly.

Our guide Zeca came to pick us up at 9hr30 at our Hotel in Porto. We are a family of 6 people and the VW-bus was with airco, a must on a day expecting 38°C in the valley ! We visited nice places, tasted local pastry, and also went to a family restaurant where they serve the local specialties, all very good ! The guide really knows the good spots... Then later that day we also had the chance to visit a Porto Quinta da bonfim, where we had the full tour and tasting afterwards ! You get value for your money ! + a safe trip !!! and a guide who can explain the story of the Douro valley in good english !

We arrived in Porto from NYC and were picked up by Zeca. One of Go Locals guides from Porto. Over the next 6 days Zeca took us throughout the country, talking of his home with pride and enthusiasm. Every morning he was waiting outside the hotel ready for another great day. Day tours of Porto and Lisbon, boat rides and wine tours in the Douro Valley. Castles and palaces in Sintra. The entire time we had a soundtrack of Paul Simon playing on our drives. Amazing restaurants had been chosen for us. ( 2 of note are Pedro Lemas in Porto and Cervejaria Ramiro in Lisbon). We would sometimes want to skip an item on our itinerary but Zeca would quietly ask if we were sure we wanted to miss out. Every time we were glad we followed his lead. What a pleasure to have our family spend a week with Zeca. Every detail was attended to. Highly recommend Go Local and highly recommend Zeca though I wouldn't be surprised if all of Go Locals staff are excellent
