Located in the heart of Oporto, the Serralves Foundation boasts a priceless heritage estate, comprised of the Museum (designed by the 1992 Pritzker prize winning architect, Álvaro Siza Vieira); Serralves Villa (a unique example of Art Deco architecture); and by the Park (winner of the “Henry Ford Prize for the Preservation of the Environment” in 1997). As a European cultural institution serving the national community, the Serralves Foundation’s mission is to raise the general public's awareness concerning contemporary art and the environment. Serralves offers a wide range of different eating alternatives, throughout the day –the Restaurant in the Museum, the Auditorium bar or the Tea House in the Park. The Serralves Shop presents a wide selection of Portuguese and international contemporary design products and the Museum Book Shop specialises in publications dedicated to contemporary art. Located in one of Oporto’s most prestigious zones, with excellent access from the historic centre and main thoroughfares, the Serralves Foundation is a unique place in the city - where art and landscape, culture and heritage converge in a contemporary vision. Joan Miro was nice, but the exhibit was small compared to others we've seen. The balloons were neat to look at but not worth, 16 euro's per person... The gardens were nice, and also free! Would recommend only if your favorite artist was on display.

A funky and very different "museum" of sorts, and well worth the stroll out of downtown Porto. There is something to pique everyone's interests - highlights for me were the lake and the Art Deco house. This is a nice stop if you are heading to the beaches in western Porto.

The museum is almost empty, save for the Parreno exhibition (inflated ballotins on the ceilings, weird black drawings and electrical plus!) Which is disappointing (understatement if the year). Not a chair in sight... Completely sucks,! Don't waste your Money

The museum was hosting a great temporary Miro exhibition in an annex when we visited. This encouraged us to wander around the gardens which are beautiful even at this time of the year (February). We also loved the exhibitions at the main part of the exhibition, in particular one by Philippe Parreno. A beautiful, innovative and exciting showcase for modern... More

The museum is a must see when visiting Porto. Great for families, couples, singles, friends for long walks in the park grounds. Amazing temporary exhibits as well as talks and activities. Check out the website before visiting to see what special events are being hosted and confirm them before going.

We visited for the Miro exhibition at the end of January. First time in Porto, first time at this gallery and wonderfully impressed by both the exhibition, the gallery and the gardens. A brave project which is obviously successful given the queues of people and the large numbers of families. Everyone very friendly and helpful. The garden setting arranged in... More

It's a wonderful place to go everything. All seasons, alone or with company, with children's, husband or friend. Great place to appreciate modern art, contemplate nature and have a good meal. Enjoy, take a walk and put your thoughts on the right place.

I went there on January 14th specifically to attend a talk in English that was advertized on the website. I got there - no talk. I went back and was very sad to see that very little effort had been made to explain the works of art (in English or otherwise) and there was nothing on the Miro exposition to... More

Good museum and amazing property. The gardens and architecture are impressive. It is an obligation to visit since you are in the city.
