Located in the heart of Oporto, the Serralves Foundation boasts a priceless heritage estate, comprised of the Museum (designed by the 1992 Pritzker prize winning architect, Álvaro Siza Vieira); Serralves Villa (a unique example of Art Deco architecture); and by the Park (winner of the “Henry Ford Prize for the Preservation of the Environment” in 1997). As a European cultural institution serving the national community, the Serralves Foundation’s mission is to raise the general public's awareness concerning contemporary art and the environment. Serralves offers a wide range of different eating alternatives, throughout the day –the Restaurant in the Museum, the Auditorium bar or the Tea House in the Park. The Serralves Shop presents a wide selection of Portuguese and international contemporary design products and the Museum Book Shop specialises in publications dedicated to contemporary art. Located in one of Oporto’s most prestigious zones, with excellent access from the historic centre and main thoroughfares, the Serralves Foundation is a unique place in the city - where art and landscape, culture and heritage converge in a contemporary vision. A Must-See for your trip to Oporto!

Only a short bus ride out of the city centre ( we used bus route 201) and this place will give you at least a half day of art and architecture based activity. The contemporary art museum is a fabulous building but the exhibitions are...More

In the European tradition this museum of contemporary art is a kunsthalle. That means it has special exhibitions and no permanent collection. It provides a balance of shows focused on artists of Portugal as well as global masters. The grounds include manicured formal gardens and...More

Lovely modernist buildings, well curated exhibitions and huge sculpture garden. You can easily spend a whole day at this place. The gallery has several exhibitions. During my visit there was an excellent exhibit focusing on a lot of 60 and 70's stuff, fluxus, action art,...More

I stopped off here on one of the guided bus tours so was easy to get to for me, but probably a little out of town to walk to, but nearly all the your buses go this way and I'm sure local buses do too....More

We greatly enjoyed walking the extensive grounds here, which have varied trees and shrubs, and are immaculately kept. The museum building is impressive, but we found the art therein much less so.

Despite how sharp and modern the building seems, the exhibitions that were happening were somewhat disappointing. Not just because it was a bit too abstract to my liking but the galleries seemed way too empty and loose. The park was a nice distraction though.

Had a wonderful afternoon browsing great pieces of art both indoors and outdoors. Relaxing and interesting. The lighting in the library was magical. Huge park and with many different experiences. Highly recommended.

The modern art gallery was good, however we enjoyed the grounds more. Stunning pink Art Deco house and lots of space to walk around. Well worth the visit.

We bought the Porto Pass which gave us unlimited rides on the metro as well as busses, there is a bus stop across the street and in front of the entrance. If you're feeling adventurous it's walkable as well, straight down... More
