Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Start from this Railway station with its painted tiles and history .
If you are in Porto for a few days then take the train to Pinhao and return a two hour and 40 minutes journey and the same back at a unbelievable price of 42 euros return for two people .
The journey takes you onto the Douro river with wonderful views
The train leaves at 0920 arrives at Pinhao at around 12 which gives you a couple of hours to walk to the riverside have lunch etc maybe a boat ride then back to catch the 14.05 return to Porto
Make sure you get a right hand seat and arrive at Porto sao bento at around 0850 get ready to get that seat !!
A great journey and well worth it

Certainly the beautiful Azulejo walls are worth a look. The station waiting room is decorated with blue azulejo. But the rest are just regular European stations (as a station lover, I'm happier here) that are lit up after dark and look great. Admission is free of charge, of course, but until around 10:30-12;00 in the morning it is crowded with groups of people and you can't take pictures slowly. Also, in the evening, Azulejo's blue color was hazy due to the sunlight coming in through the window. Azulejo, which shines blue, might be better first thing in the morning. (This is just my personal opinion, so for your information.)

The Sao Bento Railway Station is probably more popular as a tourist attraction rather than a railway station. Most tourists visit the Sao Bento Railway Station not so much to catch a train, but to admire a one-of-its-kind human artistry. Whilst there is nothing too impressive about its French Beaux-Arts architectural style, the real attraction lies within its interior main hall, which is stunningly embellished with over 20,000 azulejo tiles depicting key moments in Portuguese illustrious history. And best of all, you don't have to pay to feast your eyes on this magnificent art treasure. Its popularity also naturally means that the place can get pretty crowded at times. Located in the heart of the city, it is a convenient stopover although you may have to bear with a certain level of inconvenience due to a major construction project currently taking place in the surrounding area.

The station is free to pop in and peek at the beautiful tilework and other details. We first were introduced to the station on our TakeFreeTours and our guide explained all of the stories imbedded in the tiles. It was a bit busy to get photos without tourists, so I went back early the next morning to view the area unencumbered and take more photos.

Our tuk tuk tour stopped here and we spent approximately 20 minutes taking in the spectacular tile work in the interior of this train station. There are multiple scenes depicting life in old Portugal that will no doubt wow you! Keep that camera/phone clicking as there is a photo op everywhere you look!!!

This is probably the most beautiful and unique train station I've ever visited. Filled with gorgeous azulejos murals detailing Portuguese history, it is truly astounding. We spent 30 minutes just taking it all in and admiring the fact that this work of art is a fully functional train station. Best of all, it's absolutely free to walk in!

This historic station building, built in the early 20th century, is now used as a departure and arrival point for suburban trains towards Guimarães and Braga. When you enter the entrance of the station, there is Azulejo, which expresses the history of the founding of Portugal and the daily life of the Portuguese people, and it is very beautiful. If you are going from Porto to Guimarães or Braga, I recommend you to go well before your train leaves and see this Azulejo. There is also a café in the station where you can have a coffee and wait until the train time.

Who says things can't be built beautifully in the modern era? The Porto train station was built in the early 1900s and is stunningly beautiful. The blue tile scenes of old Porto convert what would otherwise be a non-descript terminal into a magical environment.

Amazing fully tiled interior of the main station hall.
All in a stunning blue.
The station is an adventure in itself.
Situated in the centre of this bustling city.
A lively exciting atmosphere as locals and tourists mingle throughout this busy working station.
Great to see and feel the buzz of the place.

Wow, wow wow! It is definitely the most beautiful railway station I've ever seen. It is incredible that it was all painted by just one person! And the attention to detail is unbelievable! It is weird to recommend a visit to a train station, but this is a must must must see. But also you have to be careful there because there is always a lot of people there, tourists and the ones traveling with train.
