Igreja da Misericordia is a church located in a pedestrian area of the old town of Porto, the second main city of Portugal, after Lisbon. It is in Rua do Flores. The main facade is beautiful and the inner hall has the typical Portuguese decoration with ceramic tiles. Nice. (see also Rua das Flores)

This church, on Rua Flores was not open but had an interesting exterior. It was built around the middle 1500's and received a new baroque facade in the middle of the 18th century to prevent it falling down.

This church was part of the old hospital. Simple yet elegant. The tour includes the museum which gives some history mostly of the contributors. Worth seeing.

We visited the museum and the small church on this first visit to Porto. The museum was very interesting and well presented. The church is lovely and probably has a warm feeling during services. We recommend the museum and church.

I visited this church on my last visit to Porto 2 years ago and I decided to go to the Mass service last Wednesday morning. A small congregation of mainly elderly women and a priest with a superb singing and speaking voice were present. A beautiful church with lovely statues and paintings. It is well worth a visit in the mornings especially if interested in attending the religious services. There is a museum attached and once the church has been closed at the front it can only be entered via the museum.
