My wife and I visited the 18th Century Palacio da Brejoeira during a holiday in Portugal. We had booked a tour ahead of out visit.
Free parking is available in the front drive.
The Palace has been built in the neoclassic and baroque style and is quite impressive. It is surrounded by more than 30 hectares of vineyards that supply their own brands of excellent Vinhos Verdes wine.
Our tour guide (Tiago) spoke excellent English and was as is often the case on this sort of visit seemed to have an encyclopaedic memory. The tour lasted for about 45 minutes.
The interior of the Palace is interesting and is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. However, book in advance.

This stately mansion has an easy access from the nearby road. It´s open to the public on a guided visits scheme, the guide is a friendly young lady who makes the visit interesting and amusing. The mansion is impressive. Besides the gardens, the house itself is unique and very interesting. There are an outstanding huge staircase with old Portuguese tiles, some rooms delicatedly decorated with wooden carved ceilings, china, candelabra, old furniture... Besides the mansion, that includes a chapel and a small private theatre, there are also a vineyard and a winery. It´s all run nowadays by a company, but it had always been a private residence until recently, being the last owner an old lady that died a just few years ago. Despite that, it all has a taste of olden times, it gives somehow you an insight on the upper classes´ standard of living in the past.

This is my favorite Alvarinho wine so I was extremely excited to go to the Palácio. The Palácio and it’s grounds are absolutely magnificent. Our wonderful tour guide Filipe was just amazing, a great source of information accompanied by an equal great sense of human. I cannot wait to return for more wine tasting and showing other family members this hidden gem.

Filipe, muito obrigado por todo a atenção e information. Continuamos a falar na mesa de cabeceira do quarto do rei lol. Excelente tour.

a beautiful Palacio filled with some interesting interiors, furnishings and many other items that were of great interest. The private theatre was a surprise and a real gem! Well worth visiting.

We were encouraged by our host at Quinta Teimosa to visit the Palacio da Brejoeira.
For 30 euro total my husband and I took a most interesting tour of the Palacio, toured the palace grounds, including a romantic man made lake with an island and bridges, visited the original and modern facilities for wine making and tasted their renowned Alvarinho.
No crowds, a lot of interesting history and probably the best Alvarinho produced in the region. The the tours lasted 2 hours.
You need to call ahead for reservations for the tours.

Gorgeous palace near Monção with a rich setting and history that can be appreciated through an inexpensive guided tour. The place is known for its alvarinho white wine/vinho verde, and you won’t regret it. It’s probably one of the best whites I’ve ever tasted. Should’ve gone back for more!

Went on the palace tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. Can’t speak for the vineyard tour, though it looked beautiful from afar.

We loved our tour of Brejoeira, which we paired with a few local winery tours on the same day. Brejoeira’s own Alvarinho is excellent, and we bought bottles to take home!

I personally loved how interesting the history of this palace is, being that it is privately owned and only recently opened to the public. My favorite part was learning about a dinner that the palace owner hosted between Salazar and Franco!

If you need a tour in English, be sure to call ahead to find out the times of the English tours. If that’s not possible, the translated guidebooks that are provided are good as well!

This palace was a private one until the beginning of the 21st century. The building started on the beginning of the 19th century but most decoration dates from the end of that century beginning of the 20th century. The small theater and the dining room are worth to see. It’s a good example of the way of life of the rural Portuguese bourgeoise. The green wine produced in the farm is just fabulous. Enjoy!

It was a lovely Sunday and we drove the 90 minutes from Porto to Monção in order to visit this Palace. As global travellers we are very used to visiting tourist sites in any country but were not prepared for the reception at the Palace.

We were advised by Palace staff, in perfect English, that if any other Portuguese tourists show that they are “obligated” to conduct the tour in Portuguese and that they cannot conduct the tour in both languages. How sad a policy and awkward situation.

In our case, the Palace lost the revenue from the three of us because of the two Portuguese tourists that showed.

In actuality, they did not even ask them if they spoke English, knowing we were waiting and wanting to tour.

How pathetic is this!!!! Stay away from this archaic, nationalistic managed facility.

Instead of wasting your time and money on this tourist failure, go see the other free sites in the area such as the Fortress in Valença or the Tower in Lampela (English is spoken). It is otherwise a lovely area.

Starting in the village of Monção, you will have to drive into the direction of the village of “Pinheiros” this is about 6 km from Monção, and you will have the “Palacio da Brejoeira” on your right hand side, there is the main entrance with a Gard, he will take note of your licence plate of the car, and tell you where you can park the car and then to go to the reception. At the reception you will have to choose if you want the complete tour or just the palace and the garden, we took this option, the lady at the desk could have been friendlier, perhaps it was why we just took one tour? So after a short explanation we had to wait there for the guide for the next tour. To be very honest, as we do live in Portugal we have already seen nicer locations, it is ok but also nothing spectacular to say this you cannot miss into the North of Portugal, the picture on the internet is nicer than the reality. The inside is ok but in need of maintenance and for the lovers of taking pictures like myself “YOU CANNOT TAKE ANY PICTURE” at the inside, you can take some into the small garden at the end of the tour, and finally they show you the chapel who has some paintings but who is empty for the rest. The Palacio is from the XIX century and the building of it took until 1834, and it was also nominated as National Monument in the year 1910. Conclusion worth the stopover while we were there.
