Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In Guimarães, Praça Sao Tiago, don't miss the restaurant AMU-TE. Very friendly and warm service. We enjoyed something similar to a Spanish paella which was absolutely excellent. Thanks to the staffs and the chef for that perfect diner

As you may not know, the town of Guimarães is recognizedd as the birthplace of the Portuguese national identity, as far back as the 12th Century. Right at the heart of its historical center - a World Heritage by Unesco - you'll find the beautiful Square of Santiago (or "Praça de São Tiago", in the Portuguese language), with the traditional architectural style and residential buildings dating mainly from the 17th to the 18th Centuries. The arcades of the old "Paços de Concelho" (Council Hall) building and the monument known as " Padrão do Salado" will catch your eyes. Take your time and discover traditional Guimarães. Seat on one of the many cafés and restaurants and let the Portuguese culture fill your minds, eyes and senses. You'll come back! Enjoy!

Second of two key plazas in the old town, this one has numerous restaurants with outdoor dining, shops and bars. We stopped here for a delicious lunch at Restaurante Santiago right on the square.

Situated next to the Placa D'Oliveira, Praca de Sao Tiago is just as nice and has a fine collection of attractive old buildings in its own right.

Along with its adjacent partner it forms the social hub of the old town and is a great place to come for a wander, a meal, or just a drink at one of the many cafes.

This is the largest square in the historic district and is full of cafes and restaurants. A great place to sit outside under an umbrella and drink. The big church is here.

In our brief time in Guimarães, we visited the castle, had lunch in a cozy restaurant and enjoy the atmosphere of old town. If we had more time (or in another opportuniy, who knows?), would be nice to take a seat to drink a coffe (or hot chocolate) in any square of old town.

We found this square by chance, while wandering around the town streets. It is absolutely lovely, a real gem of a place. It is not very large, but that is not a problem at all. It is full of history. This is a central point of the historic part of Guimaraes. A real medieval feel. The architecture is stunning. The buildings look quite old and at times you think a wall or a tile might just fall, but it's only a fear that will never materialise. This is what makes this place so beautiful and attractive. There are lots of eateries around too. Plenty of cafes and a place to sit and relax. Highly recommended.

Nice area with tables to sit out and have something to eat or drink. That is if it is not raining as it was the day we visited! Lovely tiled buildings surround it.
