If you are based in Porto and have a day to spare, don't miss Guimaraes! We read about organized bus trips but decided to play it on our own. We walked to the Sao Bento station and spent less than 7 euro each for the train round trip (very pleasant). Guimaraes is a beautiful place to visit, and the historical... More

We took the train from Porto for a day trip and wished we had spent at least one night here! It is so quaint....just pretty, sweet and a pleasure to walk around! 4 of us (different ages, different likes) really loved it! Nothing really "to do", but just a calm lovely place to stroll and take in the beauty. I... More

This town is full of history and our tour guide was well versed in it all although her English left room for improvement. There are lots of places of interest to visit including a castle many churches and the amazing Olive tree in the town square. To understand the importance of it all you will need a good guide or... Just walk and open your eyes ! It's nice, quiet, clean and not that hot in the morning. Take a place on a terrace and enjoy !

Just walk around the little squares (Oliveiro is the top) and streets and let the atmosphere get to you

this is an old town which has kept most of its historic charm. the shops are varied and there are many eating/drinking places. wear good walking shoes because the old cobbles can eat you up. worth about 2 hours to casually walk the whole area allowing time for pictures and some window shopping.

We found this university city really worth to visit from where we were 'based' in Portugal. We visited the city twice on March 14-15, 2017, one half a day and one evening (with dinner). Is this sufficient? Yes and no depending on what you have in mind. You certainly can spend more days if you want to see 'everything' and... More

Although I like the architecture, don't visit during a siesta, noon-3pm. All the shops and most restaurants are closed. The castle was open as well as the Paco dos Duques de Brogahia. But since I always traveling with my dachshund, we were not welcomed inside. We did however admire and take a lot of pics of the outside.
