You climb to the plateau in front church over the series of stairs. From there is a nice view downhill to Funchal. Worth the time.

As some other famous churches there are some work to make a visit. Expect to make a considerable number of stairs before arriving. However, it is a nice place.

The interior of the church is lovely and a visit is recommended. You can easily visit by taking a bus from Funchal and then returning via the cable car.

Situated in a stunning setting, the Church of Our Lady of Monte is a beautiful church in the pretty hamlet of Monte, high above Funchal. The interior is as impressive as the exterior.
