Beautiful views outside and inside the Church. At night the church is illuminated and looks just great. Also the panoramic view of the Funchal is worth seeing. Go there by a Cable Car it's the best way.

This is such a lovely and peaceful building, full of religious artefacts, chandeliers and beautiful coloured shrines. There was some building work going on last week, so it wasn't so peaceful on the day we went, but I suppose they have to carry out remedial...More

Having just finished a great walk around Monte Palace Gardens, this was a fine next-do activity. There is not a great deal to see inside the church but you can climb the steps, then more steps and arrive at the balcony at the top of...More

The wooden ceilings are nice and deserve a closer look, also Karl I of Austria is buried here. But apart from that... a church like many others, at a better place.

Definately a must see, when your in Monte. Next to it being the last resting place of the Austro-hungarian Emperor Charles I., its terrace offers a great view down onto Funchal and the starting point of the toboggan rides.

A lovely place. Standing proud high on the hillside with fantastic views down across Funchal, and onto the ocean.

Make sure you visit this church when visiting Madeira. Take the bus or a taxi and drive to Monte, small village uphill above Funchal. Or take the Teleférico and enjoy the beautiful views during the 10 minutes uphill.

We went there the on the day after the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, I did not like the paper flowers everywhere. There is a very nice wooden floor in this church.

Beautiful church at the top of Monte. Not far from where you get off the cable car so an easy walk up. Free to enter and definitely worth a visit as it is stunning inside. Wasn't very busy when we went and we sat down...More

I believe that the church opens early and each time I have been up to Monte it has been open, even if there are services on. The bell towers and upper floor are open via a door which does not intrude should a service be on... More
