Minimal entrance fee but lacks any historical displays. Entrance near restaurant (not obvious). Staff friendly and leaflet given out. Personally would not recommend a visit.

Still don't know what this was supposed to be. It had rooms inside with different things on display but not what you would associate with a fort eg photos of icecream sellers, archaeological digs. Still trying to figure it out!

We walked along the seafront, and found the glorious Fort - painted bright mustard yellow, with the typical Funchal 'terracotta' red, it was stunning against the bright blue sky. Interesting architectural features - arches above arches - and a sense of ancient times when this Fort was well-used to protect the island

Visited this on a free entry day. There were no signs saying what the place was except one sign pointing to the cells. But eventually found our way to the battlements for great views

The fort is lovely and easy to find as right on the front. You can walk around very easily to explore. There is also an amazing restaurant within its walls and you can have a meal inside, or on the turrets or in courtyard. Good value and excellent service.

The fort is situated in the old town a good part of Funchal. 3 euros each and a good photo opportunity with good views of the harbour. A relic of the past and you get a brief historical card.

We went to the fort on a stroll through the old town. We did not invest the small amount needed to go in as we were pushed for time. It is probably worth the cost as even if it's not that great, it isn't expensive (E1.5 I think). The outer parts are interesting and give some good photo opportunities.

Well worth visiting as close to the Old Town and it provides fantastic opportunities for photographers. It is an impressive building and something of a landmark locally. The exhibits did little for me but then modern art is not my thing.
