Open to the public since 1991, the Monte Palace Tropical Garden occupies an area of 70.000 square meters and houses a huge exotic plant's collection, coming from all over the world, together with swans, duck's and Koi fish. The Monte Palace Museum is an ideal exhibition space nestled within the beautiful surroundings of a tropical garden. There are three floors, two of which are dedicated to sculptures and the third houses a unique mineral collection gathered from the four corners of the world. Monte Palace, also includes one of the most important tile collections in Portugal. The tiles exhibited amidst the tropical vegetation represent several ages, coming from palaces, churches, chapels and private houses throughout the former Portuguese empire. We are open everyday except 25th of December. Our prices are: Adults - 12,50€ Children younger than 15 years old: Free Entrance as long as they are accompanied by adults. Awesome gardens. Well laid out but beware what goes down has to go up. It’s a great place to unwind and relax amongst some beautiful flowers and trees. Shame that the hotel is unloved. So much more could be done with it.

It is a decent Tropical Garden. I have been fortunate enough to visit Gardens in Paris, Singapore, Malaysia and some other unique places. This one does not quite reach up there, so if you have experience from there, skip it. If you wish to explore...More

At €12.50 for the pleasure of, this is of doubtful value. Many of the paths are steeply sloping and they have been laid with 'non-slip' a high priority which means they can be very uncomfortable in normal shoes. There is an African carving exhibition and...More

Although the Gardens are relatively expensive, they should not be missed. As the garden is on the hillside, what goes down must come up (there is a gate at the bottom where you might get a taxi). One can wander all day if you wish,...More

As you get off the cable car in Monte the Tropical Gardens are next door. The garden being that little bit further up the hill means that you can avoid some of the heat from the city. The garden paths wind their way down the...More
