You should use the cable car to reach these wonderful and varied gardens. The journey up gives you marvellous views of Funchal An immense selection of flowers plants and shrubs. The scents are splendid and all the work of one magnanimous donor. There is also...More

The botanical garden is on the side of a mountain but easy to get around it's terraces. Their are thousands of beautiful plants, trees and flowers and we were lucky that many plants were already flowering. The views from the garden down to Funchal are...More

Not a spectacular garden but worth a visit for the views alone. Modest 6 euro entry fee. If feeling fit you can walk up from Funchal centre - took us under an hour. Got the bus back though!

Right next to the cable car and worth a few hours of your time to experience the amazing variety of plants, shrubs and flowers over acres and acres of gardens. Be aware however that it’s downhill most of the way but of my goodness uphill...More

I was slightly disappointed. Very steep in places, not enough signage, not enough seats at the coffee stop near the pond, long queue for toilets. I guess it depends on what time of day and how many tour groups are there.I thought the Tropical Garden...More

Very beautiful, absolutely worth a visit! I would recommend to take the cable car from here to Monte, and then take the sleighs back down.

Two really great cable car rides and gardens and coffee. We did this on day one and it really launches you into holiday mode.

Pleasant afternoon viewing the native flora. Interesting to see what we would view as house plants growing in the wild.

Nice and relaxed walk through the large gardens with coffee shops, free wine tasting and enough facilities/restrooms around the premises. Despite many visitors, not crowded. In combination with the teleferico and botanical garden quite expensive trio as tropical garden is not included.

Even if you are not a horticulturist there is plenty of interest in this well planned garden. A taxi from Funchal will cost in the region of €15 but there is also a bus service. A small cafe provides refreshments.

Yes. We got a taxi back to town, offered us the same price as the bus. There were many taxis waiting just outside the Gardens.

Yes there is. I don't remember the exact fee but cablecar [one way] and entrance fee for two adults was ca. 20-30 EUR.
