Botanical garden

Great cable car ride up and lovely gardens to wander around. The cactus section was unexpectedly interesting. Got a taxi back down and well worth it.

Sadly, we were disappointed with the gardens. They were 'tired' and looked as though they were not being tended as they, obviously, had been in the past. The best part was the journey there by local bus...that was truly amazing!

We really enjoyed out walk around the gardens it wasnt as spectacular as I was expecting but I'm sure it will be a lot prettier in spring. The ground is uneven to walk on so be careful and wear comfy footwear. Don't pay big prices for a trip just jump on the bus in Funchal. The café was nice for... More

We drove to the gardens and what a mission that was. The road is steep even by Madeiran standards are there is a complete lack of sign posts of the road. We drove by it twice, tried to get in the entrance to the cable car venue as this was the only entrance we could find and then a friendly... More

This is what Maderia is all about difficult to write about this place because people who go here love plants and they won't be disappointed so many unusual plants and trees to see and so well laid out just go and enjoy.

Needs some investment badly to compete with "the other garden". As a specimen-based garden it lacks context and is very limited in scope. Toilets and cafe need improvement.

Although I must admit the gardens were smaller than I expected, they were very interesting, informative and beautiful. The exotic birds section was closed but I don't think that detracted from our trip at all. The cafe at the top is excellent.

Cheap entrance. Boring gardens very small grounds not much to see loads of cacti. Not worth going to see unless you're looking for half hour to kill

Really underwhelming. Lacked basics. Plants did not even have the usual name tags that you would expect in a place like this. Really poor quality.
