I have only given an average rating for this covered market although the flowers and fruit in the downstairs section of the market were FABULOUS the average rating comes from the pushy vendors and awful tourist tat upstairs. The downside is the market is smaller...More

Well worth a visit to se the flowers the fruit and the fish .Loads of photo opportunity. A real buzz full of locals ,taste for free but buy outside as it tends to be expensive if your a tourist.

Do not buy passion fruit from upstairs or the side stalls! Complete tourist trap. Not only are the prices double (£19.50 per kg) but the passion fruits you buy are completely different to what they let you taste. More sour than actual lemons! Also they...More

A super vibrant, busy market. Lots of fresh produce, plants, seeds, gifts from Madeira. Popular with locals and visitors alike.

No. Nearby are many restaurants in a re developed part of old Funchal. You will find plenty of choice along the narrow street that runs up to the fort at Santa Maria.
