Like any urban market this one has fresh products for the city dweller, along with a myriad of fresh flowers and a large fresh fish market. HOWEVER, I was conned, and later learned that my friends were conned, by the vendor of sugared fruits, upstairs...More

The visit was very good. It has lots of fruits (that the sellers offer a little for you to taste) and vegetables, as well as fresh fish. It also has flowers. kind people.

Absolute rip off definitely worth avoiding the fruit stalls are a rip off. Ok to wander round but don't buy the fruit it is way overpriced and just a con for gullible tourists. This is definitely the worst experience in Madeira. Avoid unless you liked...More

I always go to the local market when on holday. Barcelona and Malaga are the best have seen. Funchal is way down the list. Allow 15 minutes only.

I was another victim of the scam. They show you nice and tasty fruits but that's a lie. I spent 25€ there...all to the trash. No taste, all sour. I am sad and disappointed because apparently there's no control by the authorities and tourists are...More

Was looking forward to a visit to the Market to see produce - flowers, fish, vegetables, fruit, etc. but did not appreciate being ripped off by a stall selling dried fruits. Bought some dried figs having had a taster and were charged twenty pounds (UK)....More

An interesting market with wonderful displays of fruit, flowers and some tourist paraphernalia. The stall holders were offering tastes of fruit. I don’t normally stop but these looked lovely and a great opportunity to try some unusual items. I tried several lovely things and decided...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Farmers Market. I would dispute that it is a tourist attraction as there were plenty of locals buying beautifully fresh fruit and flowers. Yes, there are a few tourist type shops and yes, there were some groups there....More

Yes to England. They put them in a box. Lots of people do. You can also buy at the airport.

No. Nearby are many restaurants in a re developed part of old Funchal. You will find plenty of choice along the narrow street that runs up to the fort at Santa Maria.
