The walk wasn’t the best 45 mins uphill from our hotel but did stop at lovely look out point on route which gave great views even though it was raining on and off

We were lucky it was open when we visited; it was recently renovated/refurbished, and it was stunning inside. The plaza in front of the church is also lovely - it has been the site of festivals and celebrations over the years.

Beautiful church built 1918 with very interesting cemetery with a variety of mausoleums and graves. Very steep hill so best to get there by bus or taxi and walk down.

Perched on a hillside above the cliffs on the western end of Funchal this building is an imposing landmark and worth a visit. Very ornate inside . The cemetery is across the road with lots of interesting family memorials.
