Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hard going but amazing. The sights are truly spectacular. Wear good foot wear as this is a hard work. Try to get to the fantastic waterfall. You must take a torch as there are many tunnels. Ps take swimming gear as to swim under the waterfall is wow. But very cold. Breathtaking literally!!

This is one of the best levada hikes in Madeira. We went during rainy season, January, but it was still beautiful. You ascend into a cloud forest, and follow the irrigation channels for 4 miles until you get to the magnificent waterfall of Caldeirão Verde. The tunnels are DARK so take a torch or headlamp and remember to crouch because the ceiling is low in some areas and you'll bump your head hard. The engineering of this levada is amazing, bravo to the people who built it. if you are scared of heights and suffer from vertigo then please be careful. On our way back we were caught in a cloudburst and sloshed our way through, but it was totally worth it. This is an easy hike of 13km/8 miles roundtrip. Get there EARLY (by 8am) to avoid all the other hikers as the path is pretty narrow and take good hiking boots. Hiking poles are not necessary imho.

This is so far our favorite walk in Madeira. Beautiful woods, amazing views, pretty difficult very long hike. It has 4 tunnels on its way, so to go through you have to have a torch. Watch your head all the time- the roof is low and uneven! You need a pair of good walking shoes that are not only lightweight and breathable, but also waterproof. It's an amazing walk. Absolutely recommended!

Following the levada takes you close to vertical drops, round waterfalls, through tunnels, and under falling water. Very refreshing (I'd imagine even more on a hot day). Quite quiet. The end point itself is fantastic and more spectacular than photos I've seen so I was pleasantly surprised. The scenery doesn't really get going until later in the walk but there's always small things to keep you interested.

Very easy to walk this path. Very flat and few stairs. Totally accessible if you are a bit disabled. Levada and mountains - all over! So good.

Beautiful walk with a smashing turning point. You will need a car to get to the starting point or an organised trip. A must do if you like hiking.
