Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After touring the palace, we stopped for lunch and a bit of a walk-around in the town of Sintra. Narrow, steep, cobblestoned streets revealed lots of boutique shopping and restaurants. Our driver directed us to one of the many restaurant options, and we were very pleased with the food and the experience. The boutiques featured handcrafted and manufactured items, some kitschy "souvenir" merchandise, but mostly nicer items that were unique to these shops.

Its like stepping back in time a visit to Sintra Portugal with it's hilly cobbled streets, people literally have to stand in the narrow street to open their front doors. We found free parking at the top of town and walked up and down the stores.
There are barely any sidewalks and two way traffic so pay attention as they whip aroumd the winding corridores.

The historic town of Sintra has narrow streets that are not designed for the traffic of today. If at all possible avoid going in by car. We were fortunate to find an all day park outside the office of Tourism. Sintra is hilly and the town spreads between the hills and the Pena Palace which is a fair walk uphill without secure walking area, narrow and shares with the oversized tourist buses and rental cars. There is limited parking.
We took the local bus up to the Pena Palace and a very long wait for the bus down the hill.
The queues to visit the Pena Palace were extensive.
The Sintra National Palace is near the Tourist office and is worth a visit.

If you are staying in Sintra for a few days, this is a great place for buying reasonably priced fruit and vegetables. There is a great bakery which I recommend. This is where the locals go. There is limited craft and clothing stalls. I went on a Friday. It isn't a huge market but it has all the fresh food you need.

Sintra is Lisbon's mountain retreat. Just 30 minutes by train out of Lisbon and you are in a quiet and beautifully scenic town with great attractions ranging from street sculptures through one of the most bizarre estates you will ever tour to a stunning pasteleria

Food, booths, music and dancing all to a middle age theme. Actors wonder about the crowds to add a little more atmosphere.
