Ahh, the benefits of travelling out of season. But for me the weather was just great. I drove there but you can get a tour bus from Sintra - they're regular and not expensive, and the roads are a bit....... interesting... Is it worth visiting? You betcha. Beautiful grounds and the palace is quirky and lovely. The views are spectacular.... More

We visited this house and gardens when we went to Sintra. The house is not huge, but interesting, it had a very long passage/hallway with marble pillars each side and a stone feature and figure in the middle. It was different and quite impressive looking from one end to the other. The rooms were unfurnished, but light and airy, and... More

Rather than taking the tram, we decided to walk thru the park and then up to the Pena Palace. It is a steep, challenging climb, but the gardens give you a beautiful excuse to take your time and meander. We enjoyed reading the placards and learning about the different trees and flowers. Since most folks take the tram to the... More

We had good walk through the park. Actually, I expected more, I thought the palace had more glamour but it was also fine

We visited these gardens on a drizzly day in late October but still found them magical and inspiring. The exotic plants are the star of the show in this park but there is also a atmospheric Chapel ruin and several ponds and mini lakes to see. Each part of the garden has a different theme like Fern Valley, the Mexican... More

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful walk through the castle. As the guide books explain, the castle was in active use until 1910 when the royal family left. Most of the furniture and utensils are still in place giving a great historical perspective of royal life then. The design and coloring of the castle adds to it mystic. When... More

Did you imagine... we can find here cactus, tree ferns, pines form Australia and New Zealand... and then, at the top of the hill, an incredible palace with art motifs from Persia, Arabia, Mongolia and charming Gothic revival. Be aware that it's a park in the hill (you start at the top) and normally you can also use an electric... More

A lovely place to spend the day. The gardens are a joy . The house breathtaking. And a coffee and pastel da nata at the café a must.
