About
FIVE Historic Photography Studio is a Sintra-based studio dedicated to 19th century photographic techniques. The studio offers a hands-on experience on wet plate collodion portraiture and its development process. In this digital era, where thousands and thousands of photographs are taken every day by simple mobiles and digital cameras, the great if not the totalities of these photos are stored and forgotten in a computer. We look for the reverse; something tangible and precious that cannot be neglected. This experience is designed to make you time-travel back to the early ages of photography. You’ll have your portrait made through one of the oldest and first photography processes: wet plate collodion and will have the chance to experience the whole process of development. This immersive experience will be held at FIVE HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO, which itself is equipped with antique cameras and furniture, from the 19th century Photography all for your edification.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was the very best photography experience I've ever had. Learned such a lot about analog cameras! The passion from the owners about their hobby is just fascinating.

Exactly the type of program I like: fun, different and interesting. I learned many things the day I took my picture, especially how special a picture could be back in the days and how we take it for granted in modern life. Filipe and Vera explain everything about colodium step by step, and you end up with a kind of picture that no one else has!

Great morning or afternoon experimece for family and friends. Vera and Filipe show you some really intrredting (and sometimes forgotten) photography techniques - collodion which is by far one of the more interesting ones (a negative imprinted in a glass plate, which compared to traditional photography, truly do lasts forever). You should definitely swing by and try and get one if these to take home if you are visiting Sintra!!

This was a fantastic experience - Filipe and Vera were very kind and accommodating, and both have excellent photography knowledge and skills! We learned so much about the photography process, and had a lot of fun at the same time. I would recommend this experience to anyone interested in photography or wanting a unique photograph.

I went with my friends to take a photo at the time of the “Peaky Blinders” and the photo turned out fantastic. It was also possible to see the entire process of wet colodium photography and travel through time. Filipe and Vera are very friendly and explain everything with a joy that shines through in their work. I loved!! It's a magical experience!! 10 out of 10 experience!

We loved our time in the photo studio, Filipe was wonderful and explained the whole history pf photography to us. We came in period costumes that we found at home but he also has a few pieces and hats at the studio.

We took two plates of photos and even had pur dog pose with us! Can highly recommend, something to remember...

I loved this experience so much. It is a history, science, and technology lesson all combined with creativity. Loved hearing the details about how this form of photography came to be and how Filipe and Vera keep it alive. They are so knowledgeable and it is clear that they put passion and love into their work. I highly recommend and would definitely come back.

Whether you’re a local or visitor, this is absolutely worth your while. It was unique, affordable, and memorable. The hosts had a very relaxed and welcoming demeanor. They were knowledgeable about the craft and we walked away with a keep-sake that we both are positively in love with. The entire process was fascinating and they packaged the product in a box for us, which made traveling much easier. I recommend!

Something completely different to bring home from your trip. Forget the sardines for one hour, and go and learn this very cool way to take One Photo which gonna last forever. It is ready now for my funerals as well (laughing).
