A Taste for the Whimsical
Mar. 2020
These charming old brick duck-houses, sitting in the middle of the lake at Pena Park were an unexpected delight. They look like small castles, complete with turrets. Clearly someone had a taste for the whimsical.
There’s an almost secret garden feeling about this part of the park. The lake is still and serene with dappled sunlight and reflections playing across the water. Lush greenery and ferns surround the lake and large snowy white swans nest along the banks. The whole thing is quite romantic and fanciful.
The Pena Palace grounds are so extensive, with so many paths and grottos, that it would be easy to miss the lake. To find it, meander slowly down towards the lower exit gate (downhill from the ticket booths).

Great and Quirky
Nov. 2019 • Couples
Yes this could be a typical English quirky stately home addition - a stately castle just for ducks - so unusual - see photos

Elegant and regal inhabitants
Jul. 2019
I am impressed by the fact that someone went through the effort of building all these duck houses. They are gorgeous and the birds are totally worth it. It is in a beautiful part of the park. The perfect place to explore and forget reality for a few hours.

Nice spot
Jun. 2019 • Family
It was a beautiful spot, not too crowded unlike the palace. We took a walk there after visiting the palace and it was a nice end to the trip to the palace.
I wouldn't rate it as a must visit but if you have some time and like to take a walk in the park around the palace, this would be a nice spot to visit.

Homes Fit for the Royal Ducks
May 2019 • Couples
These two duck houses are located in the lake valley section of the Pena park and are easy to visit if you pass by on your way to exit the park towards the Moorish Castle. It looks like several ducks still call them home. There is a great view straight up to the Pena palace.

Quirky feature of Pena Park
Jun. 2019 • Couples
You will come across these quirky 'buildings' if you walk down to the Vale dos Lagos within the Pena park. Certainly worth a brief visit as the crowds don't all make the effort.

Duck fortifications
May 2019 • Couples
It's the oddest thing. They look like little forts, but are meant to house ducks. They make a great picture they way the reflect in the ponds. After walking down from the castle this is probably the nicest part of this a wonderful park. The sun was out and entertained us with some wonderful shadow and color plays. This little area around the ponds is very serene and the swans did their thing by floating stately on the constantly changing colors on the water's surface, Right here is the 2nd entrance to Park & Castle, but, thankfully, hardly anybody makes use of it. From here it's an easy walk to the entrance to the Moorish castle.

lots of ducks, and swans and geese. It's a nice set of ponds to walk around. We saw a few fish in them as well.
