It's worth going up there (by car) to enjoy the splendid views of the Setubal bay. Note that this is a free entrance. The bar has very reasonable prices so you can treat yourself with a drink with a superb view !

Walking the walls of this giant landmark fortification is a sobering experience - there weren't many creature comforts on offer to anyone posted here to keep an eye on the coast in years gone by. Luckily these days there's a nice little terrace cafe with...More

The Fort has a marvelous location overlooking the city and the river. Well renovated and interesting to explore. Don’t miss to check out the little chapel inside the Fort. It’s the wholly grail for all “Azulejo” lover.

A wonderful place, amazing old fort, feels like part of the set for Lord of the Rings. The views over the Sado Estuary are spectacular. A great place to sit and have a drink in the sun but service is lethargic.

Nice place to visit on a sunny warm day. I went to visit Forte de São Filipe last month and it was definitely a good surprise. When you get there there's a small staircase with soothing music where you can appreciate some royal paintings. You...More

View is just amazing. You can see all Setubal and coast from there. Really big plus is also that the entry is free. I have been there by car so i am not sure if there is any pedestrians path to get there safety.

there is a restaurant in the Castle but it wasn't open when we were there, but we were there quite early. The restaurant was beautiful, ring or email to get opening times.
