Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful structure reminiscent of ancient Roman aqueducts. This aqueduct, which stretches over six kilometers, three of which are underground, from the source of the Usseira to the fountain at Praca de Santa Maria de Obidos. It was built by order of D. Catarina de Austria, wife of D. Joao III in 1573. The aqueduct consists of three sections with only one register, where the arches consist of circular arcs, with broken ends in the passage of the roads. This structure underwent restoration works in 1611 and 1622. It is big, beautiful and impressive. Exceptionally preserved. Interesting and worth seeing.

This aqueduct extends for miles as it carries water down to the town from the nearby mountains. The Roman style archways are quite the sight.

The aqueduct was constructed in the 16th century to transport water to the town. The project was funded by the queen of Portugal (Queen Catherine) and she sold her lands that surrounded Obidos to pay for the construction. There are larger aqueducts in Portugal but Obidos aqueduct is fully intact, which is what makes it special.
By visiting the old town , the municipal carpark is right next to the Aqueduct which is very convenient!.

Going to Obidos, you just might drive past or glance at this terrific Roman aqueduct. I'd advise you to stop for a moment and think about the 1500's and the building of this excellent aqueduct. Amazing.

I have never really seen an intact aqueduct like this so I was really impressed by it. I gave it 4 because I couldn't find any explanations of it locally. I think they could make more of it rather than concentrating on the commercial aspects of tourism as the town seems to do.

Strange to see this well preserved and maintained aqueduct running alongside a carpark. From the wall of Obidos one can see it running towards the fields in the distance. A great sight hinting at the wonders inside the walls of the city.

Very well preserved and intact aqueduct that seems to run forever. Located at the parking area, it is hard to miss.
