Many winery visits are quite similar, but that is definitely not the case at Manzwine.

Raul gave us a wonderful tour, including the fascinating story of how the winery came to be, the discovery of the thought-to-be-extinct Jampal grape, and how the winery has renovated some of the older buildings in the picturesque town of Cheleiros (outside Lisbon), and incorporated them in the winery complex.

The newly rejuvenated Jampal is now rated as one of Portugal's best wines!

In addition to the Jampal, of which there is also a sparkling version, Manzwine also has quite a wide range of white, red, and rosé wines, made using locally grown grapes as well as grapes from other wine regions in Portugal. The varied styles of the wines gives Manzwine a portfolio with something for nearly every taste.

A visit to Manzwine is highly recommended.

I had discovered the Jampal the day before so decided to drive to Cheleiros.
Excellent reception from Sonia who briefed me passionately while giving me the tour of the facilities 🤗 and got me to taste a few wines.
All were good, except possibly for the red Platónico (their entry wine) and some were excellent.
Excellent, but where prices are concerned, you get lower prices in Burgundy (where I am from) for the same level of quality. 14.50€ for the Jampal for instance (count 13€ in Burgundy) and 80€ for their best red, which was superb.
In my mind, Portugal was associated with good wines at amazingly good prices.

On the advice of our private guide, we did a tour with an individual from the winery who was very knowledgeable about wine. The tour was much like we have been on before, in countless other wineries, but the wine tasting was a real surprise. Our appreciation for Portuguese wines from this region skyrocketed. Unfortunately, the production is small and only avail in a single US state (MD), but we will be on the lookout for its expansion. The reds were just super.

We were directed to visit this small museum and winery by our hosts at Aldeia da Mata Pequena, an exquisite accomodation just a short drive up the hillside road. It was our first full day in Portugal and the weather was unexpectedly and horribly hot. We were fortunate enough to arrive on a morning when a tour had been cancelled and our host, Raoul, was able to give just the two of us his undivided attention for about two hours!
We visited this small but fascinating museum in the small rural village of Cheleiros. We toured the winery, and enjoyed a wine tasting. All of that was quite wonderful, but the highlight really was the charm and knowledge of Raoul himself! He taught us about the local history, geology, geography, and biology. We discussed terroir and the effects of climate change on an industry that has relied for centuries on predictable weather patterns. He also gave us travel tips -- use WAZE navigation! -- and the back road to the most beautiful beaches in nearby Ericeira. What a perfect start to our vacation in Portugal. Thank you, Raoul!

Simply a local vineyard advertising and selling its products in an old Portuguese shop in an old village. Not awe inspiring but worth a visit if you are touring in the Mafra area.

The title says it all. All there is to see is the wine shop and a little upstairs museum. Unfortunately, the rest is not open for visit.
The wines seem to be very good so I bought a bottle... but I haven't drunk it yet.
