Meeting point at the border.
Jan. 2020
This square is the border between the districts of Chiado and Bairro Alto, so here the Lisbonians often appoint a meeting place. It is not difficult to get there, you need to take the famous 28th tram. A bronze statue of the poet Luis Camões will tell us it's time to go out. The statue of the symbol of Portuguese literature, erected in 1867, stands surrounded by eight other significant figures of Portuguese literature, about which, unfortunately, most tourists have no idea. The image of mermaids and ships on the pedestal is a reference to the epic work Os Lusíadas (The Lusiads) by the main Portuguese poet.

In the heart of Chiado
Oct. 2019
This plaza is centrally located in Chiado, one could say it is the heart of Chiado as everyone roaming the area will pass by here. A cozy and small plaza, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and shops at a very busy intersection. Good for orientation purposes in order not to get lost on Chiado.

One of the most important and busy squares in Lisbon
Sep. 2019
It is the most important square in Chiado, one of Lisbon's lively and historic areas, always alive. This small square is the transition zone between Chiado and Bairro Alto. In its center is a monumental statue of 16th-century epic poet Luis de Camoes standing on a pedestal with other smaller statues of classical Portuguese authors. One of the iconic places in Lisbon, vibrant day and night. There is a kiosk with coffee, wine, soft drinks and desserts nearby. Lots of cozy cafes, restaurants. The amazing atmosphere of this place makes it impossible to pass by indifferently.

The heart of Chiado
Dec. 2019
Praça Luís de Camões is the heart of Chiado. From there you can walk to the main highlights. The square itself has several bars and restaurants and, during Christmas time, decorations and music.

Picturesque square, but hard to appreciate as so busy
Feb. 2020
Situated in downtown Lisbon, the square is surrounded by grand buildings and has some of the most impressive street tiles in a city that is famous for them. However, it's hard to appreciate these as the square is so busy and there's a constant flow of traffic on all 4 sides of the square. It's one of those places that you wish was pedestrianised so that you could fully appreciate its charms.

One of the main sights on your Chiado walk
Nov. 2019
Praça Luís de Camões, interchangeably referred to as Largo do Camoes, the both words translated as "square", the location may not strike you by its sheer scale, for it lacks the grandeur and historical significance of both Rossio and Praça do Comércio, but its more intimate and, shall we say cozy, design is more conducive to a leisurely and more relaxed hanging-out, that being the reason the square is always bustling with life, comingling of residents and visitors alike, and a place of eternal rendez-vous for all ages.
By now, you will probably know that the square is named after one of the most important founders of Portuguese poetic and literary language, Luís de Camões (1524-1580), usually referred to as "Portuguese Shakespeare".
Architecturally, the square is surrounded by fine "Pombaline" (the style that domineered post-1775 earthquake Lisbon urban reconstruction) buildings and impressive mosaic pavement, the famous "Calçada Portuguesa", however, honestly, both the houses and the pavement are omnipresent almost anywhere in Chiado and Baixa central districts of Lisbon.
The location is right in the middle of Chiado district with Rua do Alecrim leading down south to the TimeOut Market, and the "Pink Street", with Rua da Misericórdia leading up north towards Largo Trindade Coelho (with its Church and Museum de São Roque) and Calçada do Duque, with Bairro Alto "party-non-stop" neighborhood to the west and Largo do Chiado (Cafe A Brasileira with the statue of Fernando Pessoa) and Rua Garrett, with the area's both of Lisbon only 2 Michelin stars restaurants, to the east.
Certainly there are tons of places to eat and drink, with two best Pasteis de Nata (freshly baked custard pies) joints in town, Manteigaria and a small Pastelaria Batalha, across the square of each other.
Quiosque Lisboa, a round-shaped kiosk, located on the square itself offers hot beverages, wine, snacks and light meals, with sitting-down area complete with chairs, tables, and umbrellas against the elements.

Great atmosphere fantastic square.
Oct. 2019 • Family
The square is centrally located in the middle of Lisbon. From the square you can explore almost all neighborhoods. Under the square is a parking garage. The famous Tram 28 passes here. The statue of the poet Camões and the kiosk on the square are amazing.

Lovely Square
Aug. 2019
Just walked along the Ribeira das Naus, had some lunch at the Time Out Market and walked up to this beautiful square.
Coming from the waterfront it's a bit of a steep climb, depending on what direction you come from (and I had a Bulldog in a stroller with me).

But it's well worth checking this square out. It's not the citys biggest, but surely one of the nicest. It's located between Bairro Alto and Chiado. In it's center the statue of Luis de Camoes...giving the square its name. Also a small kiosk is here.
Besides for photo ops and a quick rest, there's also another reason to come to this area: Just a few meters away is the nothing short of amazing Manteigaria Bakery, with the best Pasteis de Nata of Lisbon. Yes, way way.....way better than its (more famous) competition in Belem.

Lovely place to sit with a Pasteis de Nata and a Coffee
Jan. 2019 • Couples
We grabbed some takeaway coffees and Custard Tarts from Manteigaria which is just off the corner of the square here. There is an impressive statue in the middle you can sit down under, and you can look from the statue all the way down to the waterfront in the far distance. The sun was shining, fresh coffees, fresh crispy pastry and soft sweet vanilla custard Pasteis....amazing! The trams stop along here and we spent 45mins just relaxing here soaking up the Lisbon atmosphere, watching the tram drivers getting caught as they rounded the square and got knocked off the power lines, it was amusing to watch them jumping out and using their sticks to get them back on again. Wouldn’t go looking for it but if I stumbled upon it it’s a lovely square to sit and kill a half hour....with a few Pasteis de Nata ;)
