If you're heading out to the Monastery, then make a stop at the Museum. It's free and has a good collection of modern art. We spent an hour wondering round, but you could spend much longer (our 15 month old wasn't overly bothered!).
I am not an art aficiando but this museum covers the full range of lat 19th and 20th century art in Europe and North America. Very eclectic. Something for everyone.
It's a lovely building - cool and calm. The range of work is interesting, although it can't compete with e.g. Louisiana. However, it is free entry and worth a check-out if in Belem. The Olive Garden outside is perfect for a rest in the shade.

As you might expect the collection is quite narrow in scope but offers interesting comparisons of different work in the 20th century. Well worth a visit. AND it is free.
