Top ways to experience Parque Das Nações
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Parque das Nações
This neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and structures that once were the home of all the Expo's attractions and exhibits are still culturally and artistically significant. In Parque das Nações you'll explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the amazing Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see in the city) will take your breath away: its respect and will to preserve natural wildlife is uncanny. Easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi from the city center, Parque das Nações is highly recommended for anyone who'll spend more than 3 days in the Portuguese capital.

A large group of buildings, art, and shops etc along the walk from the Nations Plaza ( small display of country flags) to oceanarium and beyond. We took the tram on site for the view and for the novelty and then walked by mistake way past the Oceanarium to the end of,the walk where the car dealerships started. The Oceanarium is directly outside the tram stop!
My friend thought it wasn’t worth the time but so I enjoyed the art and ambience. Could be skipped for sure! We did not go into the oceanarium.

The words to describe this place is "stark" and "vast". From near the Vasco da Gama Mall, 155 flags lined a long skinny pond on the Grand Esplanade all the way to near the river. Other than a few large whimsical modern art pieces, there is not much here to see.

Parque das Nações is a modern district, developed through the urbanization of a former industrial area. Of all the architectural, urban, and sculptural achievements, I was particularly impressed by the Pavilion of Portugal, a work by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. However, I was even more struck by three unnamed workers ‘clinging’ high above to the rooftop of a skyscraper, whose contrast with their surroundings prompts reflection on social stratification. Who are they and where do they come from?

North east of downtown but easy to get to on the subway. A newly developed area with the waterfront area an attractive area for walks on the edge of the bay with marinas, houseboats, the aquarium, parks, restos, cafes, bars and a view of the bridge to the other side of the bay.
A collection of restos set back from the bay ....brazilian, sushi, seafood, burgers, vegetarian, mcdonalds, pizza.
Interresting architecture in the area with statues, sculptures and mobiles.

A couple of blocks inland are hotels, restos, bars etc.

The Parco delle Nazioni can be reached by taking the red metro, Oriente stop. The Oriente Station is a work of modern architecture by the famous Spanish artist Santiago Calatrava. The area, modern and redeveloped, is truly surprising. The Oceanarium is worth seeing and the cableway crossing is worth taking. The Vasco da Gama bridge and the Vasco da Gama Tower which represents the sail of a caravel are beautiful. Walk on Avenida dos Oceanos, photo at the cat sculpture by the artist Bordalo II.

Lisbon is not only past and museums but also modernity.
This neighborhood was built and redeveloped for Expo 1998 and (amazing!) is still alive and well today.
Thanks also to the railway station (the work of the architect Calatrava and the commercial counter Vasco da Gama) but not only because the neighborhood is residential with services and what remains of the xpo that mostly (I would say almost everything) has been reused. There is also a marina and a concert stadium, which are also active.

PARQUE DAS NACOES or in Greek the park of nations. It has the flags of all the nations in the world. The Vasco da Gama shopping center is also nearby. There is also a modern cone-style fountain and a large plastic cat. Cable cars also operate in the area. In my opinion, it's nothing special, only check it out if you're in the area!

Located in the eastern part of Lisbon, (very good times walking in this park, as I lived in Olivais Sul for many years) Parque das Nações, once the stage for a well-known International Exhibition, (Expo 1998) is nowadays almost a small town within another and which is so sought after by people to take advantage of the different cultural spaces.
It has been establishing itself as a residential area, increasingly sought after, combined with the great growth in the establishment of offices for large and small companies, making Parque das Nações one of the busiest areas of Lisbon.
The built green spaces invite strolls, as do all the entertainment options characteristic of the area, such as the interactive fountains, the cable car, the Oceanarium, a large shopping area, or simply a walk along the river, are always a reason to visit the Park.
The wide variety of public transport also meets the needs of those who don't want to use their own transport!

A lovely little strip of land along the Tagus river. It is wonderful to walk around the Parque das Nacoes at any time of the year. It also looked like a great spot to go on a lunch break. If you are looking for a nice spot for a stroll, This is that place.

Beautiful space! Incredible oceanarium! It's a shame that the signage isn't updated when work takes place... We wanted to visit the oceanarium, we followed the directions on the posts on the sidewalk, they told us to enter Rossio dos Olivais (av. with the flags). He told us to turn right when we found the Tagus River. OK, let's go. But it was a dead end. It was a long walk, especially for a weak person, using a cane, as was the case) when we found ourselves at a dead end! We walked back all the way (really long) to the outside sidewalk....to continue walking until the end of the sidewalk, not knowing if we were on the right path, since we can't trust the signage. A truly beautiful space, but one that doesn't think about its visitors.
