The church had a bad fire in 1959. The roof was rebuilt but the walls were left with the results of the fire. In an interesting square which was the site of the Inquisition.

The interior still shows signs of the fire that partially destroyed the church in 1959 which makes it's fire story seem more recent. Access is easy and photos are allowed without flash.

Stunning interior in marked contrast to the stark exterior. The chapels are exquisite in detail and craftsmanship.

Located in old Lisbon. Rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. In 1959, the church was severely damaged by fire (arson suspected). The church has been restored; however, much of the interior fire damage remains. No special dress code to enter and photos are permitted inside.

The inside is very impressive, it's clearly shows it's age and is a nice church to see if in the area. It would've been nicer if there was a bit more information inside.

A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site,
Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply
"Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake

earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its
name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in
Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the
Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the
