Great museum

This is a very nice ethnological museum. It's worth by its content but also by its modernist architecture . A trip to ancient Portuguese and African traditions

The museum is really worth the uphill walk or short bus ride from the busy Belem. Very quiet and not many people make here but do try to so you can enjoy great exhibits and cool air con on a hot day!!

We went there the first Sunday of the month when the entrance is free, walking uphill (quite tiring) from Mosteiro dos Jeronimos (but we went back to Praça da Figueira by bus n. 714). There are artifacts mainly of former Portuguese colonies, but we were not impressed by this small museum, we saw better ones around the world…

There were only two rooms with exhibition. However, the artifacts were nice. If you use the Lisboa Card, use it on some other attraction first. Pay for this one when you come. It costs less than $2.00. for admission. You can take the local bus to get here...bus 714, 728,or 732. It stops by the museum.

I have found with most museums in Lisbon that they are not very big. This is one of them. It has only two main rooms with a few artefacts which was very disappointing

We were pleasantly surprise when we came across this museum. It's disappointing that it was just the two of us in there . It needs more advertising ! I also feed sorry for all these people that rate the museum as poor . The museum is free with a Lisbon card ! We visited Lisbon last September and there were... More

This is not a substantial museum, but the exhibits are an interesting, striking mix of visually delightful ethnographic objects from around the world. For example, at our visit the exhibits included pot lids from Angola and dance costumes from Mali and then a whole floor devoted to Portuguese fishermen. About a half km walk up the hill above the monastery... More

A great museum with well thought exhibitions and a marvellous collection. The building architecture is also worth looking at.

The Ethnology museum in Lisbon seems to be one of Belem's underrated attractions, as my friend and I had the exhibition to ourselves for the most part of our visit. There was a temporary exhibition of African ritual paraphernalia and Buddha statues and offering bowl sets at the time we visited. The main exhibit is thorough without being overwhelming, with... The National Museum of the Etnology is situated a little bit further from the main touristic places, but it is indeed really worth the visit! The permanent exibition is well structured and has really interesting pieces from Indonesia and Africa (dolls, masks, puppets etc.) But what I found out to be the gem of the museum is the storage rooms,...
