We did a 3 hour walking tour with Marta. We learned so much from her about the city and it's fascinating history. She answered all of our million questions and tailored the tour to our requests, she also gave us an excellent lunch suggestion. It really is a great way to see Lisbon and it's an easy city to walk.... More

I cannot recommend Your Friend in Lisbon enough. The team tailored our tour to our request and made sure we had a fun, informative afternoon, culminating in a superb wine and tapas experience at Lisbon Winery. Our guide, Elsa, was extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable. We learnt a great deal about this beautiful city without 'culture overload', avoided the tourist... More

Our tour of Lisbon with Alex was just wonderful. Although we had limited time in the city, we learned a great deal about the history of the city and also explored several different neighbourhoods- so interesting. We loved every minute- especially the custard tart! I would highly recommend this tour. Alex is a very knowledgable guide, and gave us great... More

I understand that I am not the first person to sing the praises of Elsa. Within minutes I felt this was someone I really liked: she is that perfect combination of entirely professional, extraordinarily knowledgeable and so warm and intuitive. My son and I did a walking tour and were thrilled to be introduced to off the beaten path spots,... More

Our first experience of a private walking tour could not have been better. The warmth and knowledge of our tour guide, Elsa, was exceptional. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for this wonderful city was infectious. In the space of a few hours we were treated to an engaging history lesson, secret gems that we would never have discovered without a guide.... More

Alex was our tour guide and she was delightful. Learned so much from her. Saw things that I'm sure we would have missed had we tried to learn about the city on our own. Reading some of these reviews, I wish we had done the tapas and wine tour with her! Next time!!!

Elsa was a terrific guide. We were two couples and had booked her for half a day. Having done this kind of thing before we knew to ask for the non "touristy" version of the tour. And she delivered. The depth of her knowledge and command of English were exceptional. Every stop, every alley, every building came with a trove... More

We booked this tour based on reviews by others, and couldn't have been more pleased. Sophia met us, and showed us the city and its many subtle treasures for about four hours one Sunday afternoon. I am sure we saw and experienced many things that we surely would have missed in a large group tour or trying to take care... More

The four of us (2 couples) spent a lovely afternoon / evening with Alex on the Lisbon walking / tapas and wine tour. On the walking part, which was around 2 hours long, Alex took us through the central districts of Lisbon and showed us sites we would never have found on our own. She was engaging, informative and a... More

Margarita was a great guide for us in Lisbon....she was quite knowledgable about the city and its history and she was genuinely concerned about us because one of us had been ill. Not only did we receive a wonderful city overview and it's various areas, but we also received very good suggestions on places to eat, shop and see. Plus,... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
