Visited on Friday 24th March was recommended by our hotel as a typical Fado club where locals go. We were not disappointed, what a great place, lovely ambience set the scene for a fantastic evening. The singers and the musicians were excellent, loved our first experience of fado music. The staff were so lovely and attentive with the waiting on... More

Tremendous performances by local artists, both Male and Female singers. The Portuguese Guitarist was world class and the regular guitarist was perfect in his dynamics as a support musician. The level of talent and respect for he art form were obvious and nothing less that world class. The food and service was excellent; would suggest the fish dish for two... More

It's behind those red velvety curtains that we discovered "magic". Beautiful musicians and outstanding talents brought tears to our eyes. Food was good, especially the octopus salad. We had no prior reservation, but the concierge at the door was delighted to squeeze us in,and smile before leaving our table and say: "we have the best fado in the world!" Thank you!!

Monday evening visit to the Clube do Fado located in one of the oldest neighborhood , Alfama, of the seven hills city of Lisbon. We were only able to book a table for 22:00. Upon our arrival, the place was completely full. Most of the Casas do Fado do not have performances on Mondays. We started the evening with White... More

When you may be suspecting that you might be risking a tourist trap, it was not only highly surprising but also very rewarding indeed to experience how the combination of top Fado singers with outstanding portuguese gastronomy, and high quality of the service works so well. The place was full, the service combined beautifully with the Fado performances. High marks... More

Dinner is not good value or of a particularly high standard- rare fillet steak returned twice. Courteous staff but rushed off their feet and forgot to even offer us the menu for desserts or coffee. Music created a good atmosphere- an OK evening- not sure I'd rush back.

Clube do Fado is one of Lisbon's "casas de fado" (fado houses), and considered one of the best. A "casa de fado" is a restaurant with live fado singing. Prices are higher than usual because you are paying for the meal and for the artists, though not unreasonably high. Our dinner cost around 50 euros per person. Clube do Fado... More

We came here our last night in Lisbon and were so glad we did. Having visited in off-season (mid-November), we were able to arrive around 9:30 and got a small table just for some drinks in the second room. 10 Euro cover charge per person, and drinks are a little bit more pricey than is usual in Lisbon (cocktails are... Expensive, place crowed, squeeze as much as you can, singers were of low caliber for the price you pay, expected better. Interesting to notice , there were no Portuguese people dining there!!!!!!! Food NOT NICE

Very bad food and overpriced location. The ambience was also not nice. Overcrowded to make maximum amount of cash.. Music was Ok. But despite the high food prices you pay for that. Overall we were very disappointed.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
